Do you think what this kid did should be a crime?

20 y/o Prankster, Eric Farina got more than he bargained for after he failed in his 15 minutes of fame when he GRABBED a female Chicago news reporter during a live broadcast and yelled "F*** Her Right In The P*****"!!

He was charged with battery and disorderly conduct that happened in the evening hour when WGN reporter, Gaynor Hall was recording a segment on the windstorm in Shorewood, Illinois.

Footage of the exchange shows Hall delivering the lead in when Farina suddenly jumps in frame and grabs her from the shoulder and shouts the obscenity that used to be a popular worn out gag back in the day when people would jump into live broadcasts to yell the phrase that was proven to be a fake when it first emerged that purportedly showed a Fox News reporter during an off topic rant stating that phrase

The man wasnt wearing a facemask either or any other protective equipment when he accosted Hall

Police described his actions profane and disturbing.

The station quickly cut away from the broadcast as a video package later showed the station apologizing for the man's language and assured viewers she was fine

Hall said she was left shaken by the incident and said "It was not funny. You violated my personal space. You grabbed me. You should scared me. Was it worth it?"

Farina was booked at his home in Minooka and confessed to it and was released on 2500 bond

Hall celebrated the arrest and offered appreciation to her fans for their support

Do you think what this kid did was a crime?

Years ago at my job, one of our assistant managers robbed a bank. Not only did he not wear a mask or any kind of disguise, but he was also about 300 pounds, so he would have been easy to identify regardless.

Godamnit yeah.

Twenty years old is not a kid.

In fact teenager years were SUPPOSED to be when you teach a kid about being becoming an adult and how their actions will now have consequences now. I thought that why we let 16 year olds drive?

Something that absolutely needs to be understood is that people think age magically just makes you smarter, it doesnt at all, experience does. And the longer people protect kids from those experiences the longer it will be before they actually understand, maybe way too late.

One of my personal experiences I wish I could have experienced early in my life was sex. I could have wasted my teenage years being a whore instead of my twenties. Now my youth is fleeting, and I am just now learning the important instances of meaningful sex in my late twenties. Now because of this I am looking back at all the relationships I had, some of which were amazing relationships and I now realize I could have done better...

Let's go even further back. You're legally responsible for yourself at 10, the law expects 10 year olds to be at least grown up enough to not do illegal things.

That is baffling. Mind you in the UK you can legally be a parent at 16 but can't drink a cider until 18 so go figure.

Still....

"The typical age of attaining legal adulthood is 18, although definition may vary by legal rights and country."

But theyre still just kids. They dont know much of anything.

This mentality irks me. A person who is younger then myself could have gone through more things in their life than I ever will in my lifetime. Age really doesn't equal knowledge. I can learn from young and old folk alike.

He didn't actually fuck her in the pussy on live TV, right? His dick wasn't out, he didn't grab her tits, he didn't dry hump her leg or slap her ass. Right? If all those things didn't happen, all that did happen was basically him grabbing her shoulder and yelling fuck and pussy into a nearby camera.

As far as I know, grabbing someone by the shoulder, giving someone a fright, and/or yelling words that the American TV-watching public has become overly sensitive about aren't crimes. She's got a lowly public profession for fuck's sake, lighten the fuck up. She and some of you posters are way too litigious.

Maybe give him a fine for breaking the social distancing rules. Other than that, it's just 'move along, nothing to see here'.

Not having an explicit right to something does not equal it being illegal. If no harm was done, why do you feel that it's justified to do harm in return? Why was the contact offensive, because she said so? So, okay, what if she's had some very traumatic experiences with shoulder grabbing, or other kinds of grabbing? In the justice system that I know, the alleged perp would then only be guilty if he knew about that trauma and grabbed her regardless. However, it seems incredibly unlikely he would've known about her fear of being grabbed.

If it's not that, she would then have to prove damage "to a reasonable sense of personal dignity". What arguments will she use? She's on TV? She works in a public space with a big fucking camera, something to which people have been drawn since the first camera was invented. And she's a reporter, so it's reasonable to expect her to know about this 'fuck her in the pussy'-bit; people have been doing it for years. Or maybe her friends/coworkers saw her get scared on live TV and now she's embarrassed to face them? Is the shoulder sacred in her culture? Come on now. Stop being so litigious. Why was the contact offensive, because she said so?

Well, yes. It could easily be considered offensive because of what he also said while doing it. And it's also without her consent, as well. In the end, one of the definitions for offensive is causing someone to feel deeply hurt, upset, or angry. And I think that could fit easily for her. Just because it's not offensive to you doesn't mean it won't be to her or other people. And while there are things others may find offensive of not, most people would probably agree that this is. Though, in the end, in this case, she does find it offensive. And that's kind of what matters. Since it was done to her.

paulisdabomb posted...

Doesn't matter. Ignorance doesn't always matter. If he didn't know her past, it's hard to gauge what will happen. If it was something innocent like touching a back at a party, that's one thing. To run up and grab someone and yell is another. Someone who steals a bunch of stuff gets in trouble, even if they didn't know it was stealing. Ignorance isn't the solution to everything...

She probably could use that. She's technically a public figure. And was in the middle of a live taping. Which is also different than pre-recorded. And why does it matter if she knew about the 'fuck her in the pussy'-bit? I don't see how knowing about it matters at all in this case. I don't know why you're so keen on letting battery happen. I don't see why it matters to you what happens. It the guy acted like a decent human being, then this wouldn't have happened. In the end, what you think doesn't matter. He broke the law, and the courts will decide what happened to him. Maybe she is embarrassed (and probably by more than just family and friends). Are you saying it's ok because he embarrassed her? As for being litigious, he broke the law. You don't say that to people who stole a car, or killed someone. Just because his law was battery doesn't mean it doesn't count. If he didn't want to go to court, then don't break the law.

paulisdabomb posted...

IMO, I dont think he assaulted the lady. I dont think his intent was to harm her in any way. I think he just wanted to be a jackass like all those other jackasses before him.

Sometimes, especially around his age of 20, things happen that fast forward ones maturity. I hope that he receives a light sentence but that he does mature because of this and does something with his life.

Battery is, in many ways, the completion of an assault. Battery is defined as an intentional offensive or harmful touching of another person that is done without his or her consent.

Understanding the difference between assault and battery, it becomes clear that they are separate acts, not interchangeable. Also, they are not always committed together, but can be committed separately. For example, if the victim is attacked from behind, they wont have the fear of being hurt, but they will actually be hurt. So their attacker is guilty of battery, but not assault.
