When I first saw Rise of Skywalker, i was super into it and I would have ranked it first. But after calming down and watching it a few more times, its definitely flawed. Good, but not great.

Last Jedi by a lot.

Force Awakens is safe and kinda boring, though at least it introduced some solid characters. Rogue One I can barely even remember the characters for now. Haven't seen the other two.

The Force Awakens was my favorite overall, but The Last Jedi had my favorite moment, and some of the best moments in general. It also had some of the worst, which is why I can't say it's my favorite. Rise of Skywalker was completely mediocre in retrospect; it had some nice concepts like the Force dyad, but it failed to execute them in a way that would please much of anyone.

As for the side stories Rogue One was boring other than the repurposed robot up until the last 25 minutes, and Solo was kinda bad the entire way through other than Lando.

Rogue and Solo were entertaining, I can be happy with them even with the flaws. Solo > Rogue, though Rogue has the highest highs... a lot of it was very forgettable... (plus a bit 'o Kyle Katarn erasure grievance *sadface*)

TFA was a disappointing start that could've maybe been followed up fine............. but nah it just kept getting worse and ended up an unenjoyable waste of time. TFA > TLJ > TRoS

Sooo... Solo > Rogue >> TFA >>> TLJ > TRoS

to be fair though it's easier for one-shots since the trilogy movies are all tied in a huge overall mess

Solo is a great movie and I don't understand the hate it gets. The hate for Last Jedi makes sense but Solo is very inoffensive and is just a simple adventure movie in space. It's fun. And the actor who plays young Han is actually really good at playing a young version of Han, he's charming and funny.

Last Jedi, Rogue One and Solo are easily the best of the new movies. They are the ones I will rewatch repeatedly. Force Awakens is good too I could watch again. For Rise of Skywalker once was enough, there isn't anything in that movie that I didn't get out of the first viewing.

This yeah. I get the feeling most people who like TLJ are people who either don't watch many movies or people who watch lots of movies. It's probably primarily people who really got immersed in the lore of Star Wars who hate these new movies so much, and I can't blame them.

Rise of Skywalker is I swear the most cookie-cutter modern blockbuster ever. The fact it has an RT score above 50% is honestly quite something, since it seems like something that would have been destroyed by critics.

It was also probably a bit of trying to make a safe film after Solo flopped, rushing to have a new movie out by the end of the year, and just generally prioritizing mainstream-friendliness over actually telling a good story.

The Last Jedi was absolutely a flop, in terms of critical reception. Why do you think Disney went back to the director of Episode 7, who had to completely repen a new script?

On the flip side, I wasn't aware so many people hated Rise of Skywalker. Maybe I had my head under a rock, since I didn't see the movie opening weekend, but I don't remember seeing any real backlash. My youtube feed wasn't flooded with people knocking the video for half-hour-or-more rants. I'd hardly call it a perfect movie, but given what it was left to work with after Ep. 8, I thought it was about as good as we could have realistically hoped for.

As I said, Solo flopping and time constraints probably had about as much to do with it. Also probably a general mentality of just doing whatever it takes to put butts in seats without any concern over quality.

I get the feeling the Lucasfilm people collectively went into panic mode after everything the franchise had gone through in 2018.

I liked TFA a lot the first time because of what it could have setup, but my opinion of it has changed after the later films. Now I think it's

TLJ (With only the Rey, Luke and Kylo bits) >>> Rogue One >>>>> TFA > Solo >>> RoS >>>>> Rest of TLJ

TLJ isn't even worth ranking because so much of it was brilliant and so much was awful that it just needs a different scale.

Rogue One > Solo >= The Rise of Skywalker > The Force Awakens >> The Last Jedi

I wish Solo did better. I think it deserves better than it got.

It is a real shame they not only didn't have lore and plot planned at the start, but also unfathomably gave the second movie in a trilogy to some other random person rather than keeping things cohesive. It's so much wasted potential.

Personally, I think The Rise of Skywalker salvaged the mess TLJ left fairly well.

I think it's really dumb they sidelined Rose though. I didn't despise TLJ but I liked Rose and them caving to her hate mob is really sad. I also liked the "arrogantly snubbing authority to be heroically reckless" can have dire consequences part of the plot.

The thing about TLJ I hate most of all is the nonsensical idea that a republic of thousands of star systems would easily fall due to losing ONE star system, and in a rotating capitol system at that. It's not like Starkiller Base was still operational either. The giant fleet in TRoS made me very happy, and made way more sense than the nonsense situation in TLJ. Instead of involving the New Republic it was nonsensically defeated off screen.

Since day 1 I can remember the TFA reaction here with a lot of disappointed feelings about starting off the new exciting ST as basically a reboot of OT. Not a clear consensus though I don't think, and at the time people could still have some hope for the rest of the trilogy but yeahh.

Of course personally I was more on the disappointed end >_> but I think I can remember like m_c really liking it on / above OT levels?

That was because Colin Trevorrow clashed with Rian Johnson over the direction the story wanted to go. Like I said, I really feel like it was a lack of creativity on the part of Abrams and co-writer Chris Terrio that was the reason Rise of Skywalker went the way it did.

While I do understand the reasons the sequel trilogy gets so much hate and even agree with a number of them, I still find the attitude many of the detractors display towards them to be flat-out unacceptable. They seriously act like these movies killed their families or something, and act like every last thing in them is a complete travesty, which is what I think leads to them somehow attributing the problems with the films to their "SJW" casting. I swear Rose wouldn't get so much hate if she wasn't played by an Asian-American - I literally got into an argument with a YouTube commenter saying that Rose is an unnecessary character and is indicative of an agenda. So an unnecessary character is suddenly even worse when she's played by a person of color? What is even so bad about the character other than "saving what we love" and being involved in the (IMO forgettable) casino subplot?

Here's one thing I've really wanted to get off my chest for a while though: I REALLY hate people trying to compare Rey unfavourably to Ellen Ripley when the two characters are nothing alike other than being female leads of sci-fi action films. It's completely unfair considering Ripley is more like John McClane if anything.
