paying for photoshop?

I would much prefer to pay some ridiculous price like $200 and own the latest version of Photoshop

Rather than paying like $20 a month and end up more than it's "worth" in one year...and then still continuing to pay for it year after year...

And for piracy, I don't endorse it.

Agreed, Microsoft did this same thing for Office.

But I think you can still get Office 2016, and why would you?

I agree TC. I've been using CS6 for years, but I don't have the disc. Just bought a new computer and I too dislike the Creative Cloud monthly subscription. I'd rather just own the program. That being said I looked at a trial version of Photoshop Elements 2020 and it has everything I need from CS6 to continue my work so when I bought the computer I bought a copy of Elements.

It's the same for a lot of computer programs that have industry uses. I still use an old copy of Office 2010 that my parents have on CD just to avoid an Office subscription. At least with stuff like Word...it really doesn't matter if it's 10 years old, it's still solid.

I think this is something smaller companies do too - at least at my work, it's common practice to save docs to 97-2003 compatibility format if you're gonna send it out. Just so you don't get a request back asking for a save to an older version.

It was done because companies and colleges will pay for it and also to actually force updates/no longer have to support old versions+

The problem is that it doesn't take into account the minimum wage kid can't afford it
Try affinity photo too, it's a one off payment

Yeah the computer I'm about to retire has Office 2010 on it, but looking at this Office app on Win 10 I can't open my existing 2010 spreadsheets? Documents appear to open in Wordpad without issue. I saw a free spreadsheet viewer some people were recommending, but it doesn't seem to work.

Photoshop is being marketed to professionals. They don't care about individual users. I suggest using GIMP as a replacement. It has most of the features Photoshop has. I think it can even load PSD.

Isnt GIMP a decent alternative that is free?
Yeah. Completely free. Also has native Linux support. For 90% of use cases I hear about, you can do it in GIMP there's no need to boot up Photoshop.

this

and I can't think of single reason to ever upgrade from office 2010. And if I have to use a modern office, I'll use google docs which is just as good in most cases. The only thing I don't like is office 2010 can't be made into an app on windows 10 which can sometimes be annoying as you can't set it to be the default .doc opener, at least I can't figure it out.

Yeah, this is what I remember. In high school in the early 00's we had it for one of the computer classes, and the teacher pointed out that the license was like 1.3k or something crazy like that (Canadian dollars though). Blew my mind because it was a nice program, but not over a grand nice.

At the time I was into web design and I think I used Paint Shop Pro (made by "Jasc" or something similar iirc) for most of my image needs. It was free to use and worked just fine.

Edit: I think the license had to be renewed as well, so it was like 1k+ yearly. Could be remembering that wrong though.

Libre office is a fork of open office under a more strict copyleft license and has much more active development than open office.
