Did you see how Samus performed in the last Character Battle? Or Super Metroid blowing out Galaxy before almost defeating a genuinely strong ZELDA game in the Best Game Ever contest? Metroid is very legit on this site, despite the lack of strong new games.

I think of a "real" game contest this way: there's a sea of Nintendo and Square games that aren't super notable, but would beat a lot of games just on name recognition or general respect. games like DKC2, or Super Mario Kart, or Final Fantasy 4, or Mario Kart 8, or whatever. if you can't get over that general tier of games, you're probably not worth a spot outside of for diversity's sake. Dark Souls crosses that line. so does Persona 4/5. Xenoblade too. but Last of Us? ehhh I dunno. God of War, the same.

Last of Us pre-leak was a legit game. Not amazing but a legit game. Who knows anymore.

You're way overestimating DKC2 though. That game is not strong and would lose to everything you listed.

Yeah, the sequel is going to tank the entire franchise, but that performance against Dark Souls wound up being decent despite the leaks.

God of War should age well, though. That director seems to have a good grasp of what fans want, so I doubt it will be sullied by its sequels.

I feel like you could dump dozens of random 90s games that would rock this contest. Sonic 2, Mega Man X, Tetris, Oracle of Ages, Xenogears, etc. RE2 is one such example and it almost won its division.

Yeah, DKC2 was the one little bit of high fodder from the SNES/Genesis era that made it to 2015 and got a good path to Round 3. It is the actual greatest game of all time, but its the anamoly of the SNES pack from last time around.

Now, you take the next weakest SNES game from 2015 (which I think is Mega Man X), and it destroys TLOU with no debate.

Fair enough, on second thought I was probably getting a bit too excited by Metroid's rise and Mario constantly jobbing to Zelda and Smash. Zelda-Smash-Pokemon (only thanks to RBY)-Mario-Metroid seems like the right order. What's the next couple of Nintendo series afterwards tho?

Far more people finally getting the chance to play Xenoblade thanks to the remake should only make the game stronger. Xenoblade had horrible availability issues to contend with in the US, along with being a very late Wii game.

Leon mentioned recently that he thinks Xenoblade fans are the biggest 'go big or go home' fanbase out there and this is honestly why. If the fanbase didn't Go Big with their vocal love and support of the game, we don't even get the game localized. Or get Shulk in Smash, or two sequels, or an HD Remake. It's series that has built itself itself up bit by bit through sheer perseverance and quality.

The only one of those that might breach the top ten is Mega Man X, which looked not THAT much stronger than pre-leak TLoU. And MMX is the seventh strongest SNES game no? And Oracle of Ages? Come on.

Also 2019 RE2>1998 RE2, and that game still lost to possibly the weakest division winner.

Sad for Persona, oh fuck it Persona 5 is better than witcher (and yeah you can come with me all hate, im dying with this opinion )

However my biggest surprise is that people might put Dark Souls to win over Skyrim, i know Bethesda is Shit right now but Skyrim was still an amazing game, really surprised really.

If there is any Chance Persona might Recover tell me Guys, at least it went in the Quarter Finals which is big for me and for a more Niche Series.

this is an extreme case, but remember that Smash/Mario series match? it looks worse after Brawl releases than before. hype is a weird thing.

well it depends. Witcher might be legit THAT much stronger so the rallies are sort of just keeping things closer. Whereas the gap between skyrim and souls is mucc smaller
