I think most people picked Ultimate before the contest began. What say you now?

Im surprised by these results. Odyssey has had a more impressive run. Unless SFF in favor of Ultimate is the logic, I dont think it wins.

Odyssey looked stronger in the first three rounds. But we could get a case of rSFF.

Smash faced harder competition. 64% on Zelda ALBW is far more impressive than 72% on DMC5 and Shovel Knight.

Ultimate ended up bringing Smash back to its competitive roots of Melee, which favors a more hardcore, but limited fanbase. All the casual votes the series got from years of Brawl and Sm4sh aren't there now due to the amount of time needed to become good at the game again.

I guess I could never get over the Galaxy games kind of being pushovers when you look at their level of acclaim and being main entries in the Mario series.

Also, I really thought Smash was going to challenge BOTW, so if it loses here, that would be quite the massive miss on my part.

I don't see why Smash would lose. Odyssey simply had worse competition.

Multiplayer gaming has also fallen off a cliff during the past 10 years on this site. The board played Brawl's online multiplayer much more heavily than Ultimate's online multiplayer. I wouldn't be surprised if Ultimate is simply weaker than we thought because this site has moved away from multiplayer to put much more focus into single player gaming.

This is ridiculous. "Everyone is here" and the never-ending flow of DLC characters is the biggest casual grabbing factor that Smash has had in the past decade.

Even after looking at the numbers, I still think Ultimate will win. That said, before the contest I had no doubt about it winning, now however I'm at least a little concerned.

ult gonna win. This gonna be like mario samus 2005 where samus looked stronger going in but mario won easy. Ulti is the game you bought the switch for, oddyssey was the second game you played, I played it for like 10 min with my friends. Couldn't even remember the name of the game it was that generic.

^Odyssey was the best selling game on the Switch after 2017.

Mario Kart later surpassed it and Smash sold slightly more as well, but it absolutely sold consoles.

Ultimate is indeed the game I bought the Switch for. Then My wife and I realized we couldn't play online with our friends because the online is trash. Then we picked up Odyssey and had an amazing time with it.

Something to remember is that Smash 4 didn't actually look that amazing in 2015 either, and that was only a year out with a lotta hype still surrounding it and its DLC

Ultimate is a year and a half old and the last two DLC characters (as far as this site was concerned) were 'literally who' and 'literally why'.
