If some black people want to reclaim the word, it's their business. Hell, I'm sure some them don't mind if you use that version "in the right context." But, fact is, you're gonna piss off some people. You know it, I know it. Everyone knows it.

Is that one word so important to you that you NEED to be able to say it? It's got some bad history associated with it and will always be, at the very least, controversial. Just pick another, the meaning won't be polluted by "does he actually mean it this way..?"

These tournament operators are really dumb to try to employ a zero tolerance policy. Now that dipshits have seen it work, they're trying to get other players in the FGC banned from tournaments.

Because they responded to this petty e-drama, they've opened themselves up to be pressured. If they banned LTG for saying mean things about a trans woman, they have to ban Cero for using the N word. If they have to ban her for that, they have to ban Justin Wong for the same reason. And so on. And words like that are so common that they'll just lose more skilled participants than is worth it.

Just let the FGC have their gamer words.

He simply should NOT have been banned. Number one, he conducts himself respectfully at tournaments. Number two, this incident happened on a stream not at or sponsored by EVO....totally unrelated.

I've definitely seen white dudes who grew up in predominantly black neighborhoods use it casually but thats with his circle and thats definitely a cultural thing so thats probably the only time I can see it. But other than that rare instance white people dont need to say either version.
