"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but all of us need to grieve the life we once knew by shifting into radical acceptance of our present reality.

There is no "normal" to return to and if we are honest, the pace of our former lives was abnormal".

Honestly, I think people just mean "returning to normal", as in finally being in closer physical contact with their friends and family again. The tweet makes it sound like the virus is going to last forever.

The shutdown will not last for years. Our economy will completely collapse, and people would just have to accept death as part of life.

depends on what you mean by a return to normalcy, I suspect that the longer this goes on, the harder the recovery will be. We're not going to return to peak employment right away. So my guess is a return to the normalcy of the early 10s economy, p high unemployment as people only slowly start traveling etc like they used to

There's pre-COVID 19 and an oncoming post-COVID world. There may be a new "normal," but it's not like it's going to change the nature of human beings or anything. Some people talk as if we're about to be living in a post-apocalyptic society or something.

I mean I bet many of the changes will just be behind the scenes policy and procedure most people won't even notice in day to day life. Does anyone actually throw a fit about the TSA existing anymore other than for good reasons (i.e. corruption or something)? It's basically a nothing. Oh no, things will be slightly restructured in what is allowed/done in such a way I won't even notice. What a shame. Life is OVER.

Meh, I dont believe for one second well just kickstart back into the way things where before but I think things will return to normal fairly quickly.

The only things that will definitely change is people and companies being more conscious about preventing future outbreaks. Which is a good thing.

Lets not be so woefully pessimistic.

I see the positives in that. Nothing natural or good about having to work 2 jobs, a sidehustle and keep up 4 diferent social media platforms all at once. Humanity is destined to burn out at that rate.

Anyway, ironic of me to say this but she's really being dramatic.

Has anyone asked if we actually want things to go back to "normal"? What was normal ,according to media and people on the interweb, wasn't too great to begin with. We can do better than what we had even if that means taking a few lumps to get there.

Plenty of people have been going out for non-essentials and having parties/gatherings at their homes. Plenty of people going out for walks or to beaches, or the parks.

The masks & gloves are temporary, the social distancing is temporary. And a lot of people arent even bothering.

I see it every day at the store I work, people coming in to buy cigarettes, make-up, & other non-essentials. Not keeping a distance in the aisles, only in line. I dont even know what the company has learned, weve been having new sales on non-essentials and bringing out the summer toys & dresses.

The people currently taking precautions like wearing uncomfortable masks & gloves will stop doing so once this starts to die down. The only new normal will be stocking up on toilet paper. Thats the only lesson we will have learned.

Yup, saw one in the parking lot the other day. I looked out thought, am I seeing what I think I am seeing.
I went out a swept it up and one of my coworkers said basically exactly what you said.

Having said all that, I could see a discarded mask on the pavement be a new Times Magazine cover photo.

That's the part that spoke to me. For the past year I was way, way too busy. I was lucky to get an hour at home to relax most days. At least now I've had the time to reflect and notice the effects that the lifestyle has had on my mental and physical health. Being cooped up inside sucks in a different way, but with any luck things will shift to a better balance when we come out the other side.
