Do you think Team USA Gymnastics is screwed if she drops out?

23 y/o Simone Biles, the most decorated olympic gymast says she's unsure if she'll compete in the 2020..or rather, 2021 Summer Olympics Games after she admitted she CRIED when the news of the games was postponed for a full year after training 4 solid years and competitions for it..but in the end, she said it was the right decision given the coronavirus pandemic!!

She said "I was actually in the gym training at the time, and i went to the locker in between rotation and got a text. I didnt really know what to feel, i sat and cried but ultimately it was the right decision. We need to make sure that everyone in the US and around the world is healthy and safe.

But the problem was that she was physically gearing up to comepte for one last time at the olympics and now she has to regather for momentum in the next year

She said "With the year and a half i took off, i got back in shape so physically have no doubts that my coaches will get me back in shape. But mentally, going another year, i think that's what is going ot take a toll on me and all of us. We have to stay in shape mentally just as much physically so that will play a big factor moving forward, listening to your body and mind and i don't know if i want to wait a year to put more pressure on myself"

Biles says she needs time to collect herself and is let down that thi happened but to wait another year is even harder

Nothing is set in stone yet as they are trying to figure out the right training regiment and mentally and physically staying focused for the games..

She won 5/6 gold medals last year at world's and broke the all time record of 25 medals by any american gymnast and is a 5 time olympic gold medalist.

Simone says a year is a lot for athletes, especially for gymnasts on the impact they take for their entire bodybut right now she needs to figure out if it's something she still wants to fight for a year on

Do you think Team USA Gymnastics is screwed if Simone drops out?

Well she'll be 24 next year, that's considered grandmas age when it comes to gymnastics

Holy shit it's just one year what's the big deal? You get an extra year to train WTF. Sure it might be old for gymnastics but when you start at 12 and younger it's all relative. Her body if she keeps in shape will be just fine for this Olympics. The next one is definitely more risky and I wouldn't expect her to compete in 2025.

As far as I can tell, she is not even on the list...

Edit: and there actually is an US gymnast on the list. Now I am even more confused about whatever Duckbear is pretending.

She is going to cry because people don't want to die? I don't get it.

She's crying for all of the time and effort put into something that matters to her and a lot of people all of a sudden disappearing without a trace.

I get that it's sad, but realistically like I said it's just an extra year to train. She's not that old overall, so if she wants she can leave gymnastics and find something else to continue with in her late 20s. Something less physically intensive overall, like volleyball or something. Gymnastics is way more intense than anything else because of the precision involved, it's not just hitting something a far distance or a measurement of a clear visual thing.

sudden disappearing

That's not a ridiculously dramatic interpretation.

Oh c'mon this whole situation the world is in certainly is dramatic and did seem to appear suddenly in terms of how fast the postponements and cancellations are happening.

It's postponed for one year, to interpret anything else is ridiculous.

Man, some people in here are making her out to be a villain, simply for crying. Its fine to be understanding of the greater good (which she is, per her own comments) while also being disappointed in ones own loss. She fine, and its understandable.

She'll be 24, most real athletes are still on their rookie deals at that age, she probably won't even be in her athletic prime yet next year, or just hitting her prime

I can understand feeling disheartened by this and I don't think anything is wrong with her crying but people need to stop pretending you are done when you are just hitting your peak

Because you're just as melodramatic. She will have just as many Olympic attempts in her career, she has been deprived of nothing beyond claiming any Olympic win happened on 2020, which means nothing.

It's different for gymnastics. You peak at a really young age since you are shorter and more flexible. Biles is 23, which is already on the older side for a gymnast.

Beat me to it.

She's already passed her prime when it comes to gymnastics. Gymnasts peak around like 18. It's a weird sport that way.
