So the game map feels big and open ended. I was more or less enjoying myself until Nemesis showed up. I don't know how you're supposed to stop him except by spamming dodge rolls. It seems like he can stun lock you with his punches and he also has a ranged tentacle attack that pulls you back in front of him.

You can't "stop" him. You can put him into a 30 ish second "rest" state if you shoot the metal thing on his heart a lot, blow up a red barrel next to him or use a grenade. (barrel and grenade are instant downs I'm pretty sure)

If he puts his hands out and looks up into the air like an over dramatic shakespear actor, you've "downed" him and have 30 seconds to GTFO of the area.

Hearing/reading a bit more it sounds like a bigger step down than the original RE3 was.

- Shorter. 5-7 hours to beat taking your time and exploring
- Nemesis stops being scary by the third encounter and changes behaviour to be a boss with obvious weaknesses and isn't as scary or effective as Mr X
- More linear than RE2
- Less areas than the OG RE3 which hurts the already shorter experience
- Less puzzles than RE2 Remake or OG RE3

It's not a bad game but it sounds more like an expansion for RE2 than a full priced game.

OG RE3 had Mercenaries to add replay value which isn't here. The Resistance mode hasn't been taken into account yet though to be fair.

I think people should keep their expectations in check. It still sounds like a fun experience at least.

this seems like a fair assessment, given what we know. I will def still buy the game but when it goes on sale, which will probably be soon. RE2 did great commercially and critically and it still was featured in sales soon after release.

I knew Capcom would be stupid enough to focus on the multiplayer mode instead of the campaign. Every multiplayer Resident Evil died soon after because they suck and Resistance doesn't seem any different.

Looking at Steam I spent 22 hours in RE2 all up. Did a playthrough with both Leon and Claire and tried out the unlocked challenge stuff afterwards.

Doesn't sound like RE3 will last me anywhere near as long because I'm not really interested in the multiplayer and there doesn't seem to be as many incentives to replay the game.

My concern was not the inclusion of Mr X, but that I didn't believe that it was a good basis for Nemesis. ...I really, really, REALLY wish people would stop perpetuating this free roaming Nemesis nonsense. He was completed scripted in the original, FFS. Him being scripted in the remake does disappoint me greatly since RE2 is what pushed me to even try Alien Isolation (and I loved it). Was hoping Nemesis would be even more relentless. (._.)

TLDR: campaign short with poor replay value, Nemesis not used effectively.

I actually like Gamespot because they usually lay out their gripes with a title pretty well, not gonna get hung up on the number

Doesn't sound good though. Hope that doesn't turn out to be the case on release.

If everyone "has trouble" with your post then maybe you aren't being clear enough or aren't wording things correctly? You used the word tedious in your description of Mr.X but we are having trouble grasping why a 5-10 minute segment is tedious? If you know what you are doing you are in and out so quick that it shouldn't be tedious. It shouldn't take anything of your time. What could make it shorter or less of a burden than it already is?

It's tedious because it's boring. Aside from Ada's section it's the worst aspect of the game. You have no incentive whatsoever to engage with him and he's slow as hell, plus you can hear him coming a mile away. It just doesn't have the desired affect at all. All it means is more walking, rather than running, slowly through corridors that you've already cleared.

So yes, tedious. You might not think so, but that's how I feel about it. Nothing to do with difficulty. Everything to do with his implementation being shit.

You shouldn't be walking and even in my first playthrough I didn't walk. He isn't fast enough to keep up with you and even in the first playthrough it isn't difficult to figure out what you need, knee cap any zombies, and circle back around. It doesn't slow you down much if any. So still confused about it being tedious and boring. Just run to the key item, grab it, and get out. In future playthroughs you REALLY shouldn't be walking. Watch a few speed runners they never slow. The mr,x segments if you know what you are doing literally are 3-5 minutes.

I've no interest in speed runs or watching speed runners. Literally none.

So basically it amounts to the people telling mentors got gud needing to watch players who are actually good to find approaches to get through the game.

Of course, this is all pointless because it wasn't what the actual discussion was about. The original point was that I don't believe that Mr X was a solid foundation on which to build Nemesis.

Nor do I think that REmake 2 was the definitive version of the game so I'm not hyped for the third.
