I currently have Six Samurai (least used), Lightsworn, Danger Dark World and Ancient Warriors. I wanna play something fun and somewhat competitive, but not at the level of actual tourneys if that makes sense lol. I don't plan to go to tourneys, just play with my cousins. I'd like the budget to be ~$70 max.

If you're the only one who wants to have fun, Ritual Beast is pretty fun and cheap. Oh oh speaking of that era, Shaddolls is amazing right now and probably one of the cheapest viable decks you can build right now. They got a structure deck recently and you can make a pretty decent deck by just buying 3 of those. ($42 for 3 structure decks)

Made the first two and they're pretty enjoyable. Geomathmech Final Sigma is such a fun card. Might be a bit more expensive than $70 though do to short prints. The Shaddoll structure deck that came out is fun as is the Rokket one. Plus the Borrel/Barrel Dragons are some of my favorite link monsters. And I plan on making an @ Ignister eventually since they seem fun shitting out all the types of summons. I also got lucky with a card pack and got Firewall Darkfluid so another reason to play them.

I was actually considering this although there's a few versions for it right? The one that uses the elementals and mega Monarchs and the one that uses primarily the dark and light ones?

Monarchs got a structure deck too. Probably gear a build around what they give you in the SD if you wanna go budget. Some of the spells might be sorta expensive due to being viable in similar but better decks like True Dracos I think

I also wanted to try Shiranui too and it was pretty cheap when I built it. However apparently it sucks ;( Might just try to fix my six samurai deck so it doesn't just collect dust lol

No idea how viable they still are, but the last time I played IRL (it was pre-MR4) Yosenjus were a really good deck that you could also build really cheap. The only expensive part was the extra deck, but if you already have plenty of good generic extra deck stuff (like Links and rank 4 Xyz) for your other decks, then you've probably already got most of the best stuff ready to go. I also ran Genex Ally Birdman in my Yosenju deck (which comboed really well with them and opened up level 7 Synchros and sometimes Star Eater) but not many people went that route with Yosenjus.

Knowing almost nothing about competitive Yugioh, the favorite deck concept I've ever seen is the Skull Servant one.

I like the idea of the sad little bullshit monster being a build-around.

Still playable lol. I forget if it still actually uses Skull Servant, but it being level 1 actually has a lot of strategical relevance, like One for One or Linkuriboh

Yeah you can send any of the skull servant guys to make Linkuriboh since they're lvl 1, and you fill up your grave by using the millions of zombie support, get surprise 5000+ attack bois on the field for game

Yea I'm not sure what cards are expensive now in the deck I heard alternative dragon is pretty pricey. I got most of the cards when blue eyes was meta so I spent few hundred.

I'd check out monarchs and dino deck as well.

And this is kind of why I don't wanna get into the competitive scene. I know the meta has been years removed from players actually going back and forth instead of one dude jacking off for 10 minutes but damn I do not wanna deal with sweaty nerds doing that for however many rounds a tourney is lol

Well it depends on who you play with I've played online,IRL with friends, at tournaments and at local card shops. I've only run into sweaty hardcore players at tourneys if you have a local shop near by you can check that out to see how the vibe is. People are usually super friendly when you go in to buy cards it's easy to pick up a conversation with them.

I'll try playing online first it's the most accessible and you can test out any deck configuration you want.

There are a lot of things you can do to stop combos and interact on your opponent's first turn. You would've liked this meta, where it was stuff like Sky Strikers or Altergeist. Sky Strikers summon like 1 card, play a bunch of spells, break boards, and refresh resources and kill you 5-6 turns later, and Altergeist is summon a monster, search some traps, set 5 pass turn and slowly out resource opponents. Sky Strikers were infamous for being meta for over a year. People were really positive on them for being a skill based play yugioh deck, but Sky Strikers were alive (and tier 1) for so long people got tired of the grind game. This is why having combo decks is important

Combo decks come and go, and not all of modern ygo is combo-based. Thunder Dragons were to some extent, and so are Orcusts sorta, but their combos are pretty short.

Yeah I was kinda exaggerating a bit lol. But I have gone to a few local places and chatted up a few peeps when looking through singles and they were nice enough. One dude I was talking to said he joined the tourney that happens on Saturdays and said he got rekt and I was like...if this dude is getting rekt Id prolly get analized lol

3x Reckless Greed
3x Common Charity
3x Upstart Goblin
3x Graceful Charity
1x Pot of Duality

And 6 more regular monster cards, preferably ones with good defense that you can summon right away. This isn't a totally 100% automatic win because you could get unlucky with the Graceful Charity discards or with the extra monster cards, but it's really close.
