How come, though? I'm not trying to say you're wrong, but as someone who quite enjoyed the 8 or so hours of it I played (despite not being an MMO fan), I'm legitimately curious.

For my own contribution to this topic, I think the only other game mentioned so far I've played is Sticker Star, which I actually liked. The one game I've played that I'd say deserves to be mentioned is A Valley Without Wind, and even then, that was hardly an offensively bad game.

Personally? Pokemon Sword/Shield, because of what it could have been if more than the bare minimum amount of effort was put into it

it isn't objectively the worst disappointment, but it's the most I've felt let down by a game in probably a lot more than just the last ten years

Not pretending at all here, I loved The Evil Within when it came out and I still love it now. I won't pretend it doesn't have issues, like the questionable letterboxing (even though it's now fixed) and a conclusion that drags on a bit too long, but it's one of the more true survival horror leaning games of the decade with memorable enemy designs and one hell of an engaging psychological story.

I received shadow of war as part of the humble monthly

I'm about 25 hours in so far, and I don't 100% understand what the hubbub was about. It's just basically more levels for shadow of mordor, which was a great game

Maybe they've patched whatever was plaguing it on release

A lot of what they added was boring filler, essentially remaking the first with more bad stuff you are forced to do.

First was at least somewhat streamlined

It was just kind of a victim of expectations, which is why it's not quite as big a "stinker" as some of these other options. It was essentially intended to be, and in some ways had the potential to be, a really unique MMO that improved on the typical formula of the genre and completely broke from it when necessary. In practice, it ended up being a very typical one. A pretty solid and decent one, but unremarkable nonetheless, fairly indistinguishable from any competent, big-budget game of its kind. Actually more formulaic than its predecessor because some of its more creative-looking mechanics were just standard MMO stuff in disguise, some of the design decisions didn't really work, stuff like that.

Again, fine game in its own right, but "stinker" to me refers to something that just came in far below what it should've been, and GW2 definitely fits that bill to me, especially as a pretty avid player of the original.

For the record I don't think evil within has a good story at all.

It's like Resident Evil B-movie shlock that tries to be Silent Hill arthouse and I think the result is mostly just funny.

The enemy designs are incredible though and makes for extremely memorable bosses and sequences.

I guess I can see that complaint, but at the same time I can't.

Yeah, you have to take over 4 regions instead of 2. I just don't know when more content became a bad thing

I actually enjoy the batman style combat and stealth, as well as the nemesis system

My understanding of the complaints were there was too much leveling to do towards the end, in an attempt to incentivize microtransactions

But I haven't gotten to that part yet

Yeah my understanding is most people at the start of the game are like "what's with all the complaints, this is a good game"
