Are you more of a 'Star Trek' fan or a 'Star Wars' fan?

Which one do you prefer!

I was a star wars fan until Disney put a huge bad taste in my mouth. I have lost all desire to watch any of that stuff again.

Can't tell you much about Star Trek.
I've been watching Star Trek since I saw the TOS movies when I was a kid.

I like the concept of Star Trek more, but in practice I've never been impressed with their execution. Star Wars at least has three solid movies.

Star Trek has The Wrath of Khan, They Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country, First Contact and Beyond.
Then there's Nemesis if you think that's a good movie, but I have shit taste. I like Nemesis.

Replace the fist one with Star Wars. I'm an idiot.
I know nothing about Star Wars except that it has space magic.

I really like the (classic) Star Trek movies.

All of them with the exception of The Motion Picture and Insurrection with the latter being the absolute worst.

TMP is slow and boring but Insurrection is just straight up crap. I've tried to watch it twice and I just couldn't stomach it after only 30 minutes in.

They both have their bad parts with the Disney Star Wars trilogy and everything in Star Trek Discovery marking the first time a Star Wars movie or a Star Trek show is flat out terrible, no really good Star Trek movies outside of TOS exists while at it...

Overall Star Trek just offers more without needing to shove it into secondary material.

At least Discovery is better than modern Doctor Who *shudders*.

I liked Star Wars before the Special Edition edits or the "Shadows of the Empire" game came along to gauge our interest in more movies. We all know how that went. Some of the books were good too, but then Disney happened. So rip canon.

When it comes to Star Trek, I like some of the original series, half of those movies, most of Next Generation and its movies, much of DS9, and some of Enterprise.

Star Wars. I always loved the Star Wars franchise (movies, video games, music, the concept/story/world...). I was never interested in Star Trek.

About 6 good books lost and 180+ terrible ones burned to the ground really isn't a housecleaning to be mourned. Or one that wasn't effectively both inevitable and necessary.

(especially when the original plan seemed to be to try and salvage the only worthwhile bits out of the EU in the new continuity anyway)

Though that being said...

So rip canon

"I don't read that stuff. I haven't read any of the novels. I don't know anything about that world. That's a different world than my world. When I said [other people] could make their own Star Wars stories, we decided that, like Star Trek, we would have two universes: My universe and then this other one." --- George Lucas

No matter how hard Lucasfilm tried to lie about multiple levels of canon to trick fanboys, the EU was never really "canon" in any meaningful way, except inasmuch as it related to itself. Which really isn't canonicity as much as it is consistency.

The EU was effectively "official fanfiction". Sure, it had the official branding on the books. Maybe you enjoyed it. But it was never really "real" as part of the official universe, in the sense that anyone doing new movies was ever going to feel obligated to pay any attention to it, Disney, Lucas, or otherwise.

Lucas' real opinions of the EU were pretty obvious, like when he found out about a popular EU character, and decided to add her to the movies, and her sole role was to get shot. That was basically Lucas saying "Ehh, fuck your EU." The EU thrived because Lucas was mostly disinterested in anything other than what he was doing personally, which meant he didn't care about the books because they "didn't count" anyway.

It didn't really matter WHO ultimately wound up making Episode VII-IX, every single post-RotJ EU book was absolutely doomed the moment anyone decided they were going to make those movies.

I liked Star Wars too until Lucas gave a stupid interview in which he compared Luke and company to Che Guevarra in Cuba, or basically he bit the hand that fed him. I could never look at Star Wars the same way again after that interview.

As far as Star Trek's concerned, I like most episodes of the old series (there are a few that are pretty corny and over the top), movies 2, 4 & 6 (1&3 could've been better with a few changes), some episodes of next generation (though a few were a bit too extreme for me), none of the next gen movies, much of DS9 (though there were a few episodes that were over the top), a few Voyageur episodes but despise Enterprise since Archer, to me, was such a weak captain.
