Ehh, I respect coworkers and I use whatever pronoun people want. But I dont like that entitled attitude you are pushing. Youre saying no one has given you a good reason (whatever that means) for not respecting people, but no one actually owes you or anyone else that. You cant just demand respect. Well, I guess you can, if you force it through government intervention like in Canada.

What do you call a person who doesn't respect people? A dick.

That makes absolutely no sense considering "they" has the same number of syllables as "John". Come up with a less stupid analogy

Nobody cares about the number of syllables

Also "they" has very common usage to refer to a singular person, especially if the subject's gender is unknown. It's kinda telling that so many people on CE are supposedly grown men in their 30s and have never heard of this before

Unknown gender is really the only valid time to use it in the singular. Otherwise the majority would use he/she

But what's the point of forcing people to use the really stupid ones like Xir or shit like that?

Do you know what third person means? And this all happened because of a conversation about the non binary person, they thankfully werent present for it. My buddy corrected the dude who was being a dick, and he said that he would never use the correct pronouns and blah blah blah so my buddy told him that he has to if he wants to work. So he threw a hissy fit and got sent home.

Is that the person you want to be?

Honestly, I wouldnt want to be either if the people in that situation. But if I were the boss Id probably have to play pronoun policeman anyway to avoid a lawsuit.

And what gives the dude the right to demand I alter my speech for them over the rest of the world? Cause they asked? It's one thing to say I wish to be referred to as Hulk and not Terry. Fine, we all choose names like on this site. But pronouns? What benefit does this serve them? Or me? They're stripping away basic critical information of one's gender that you would be able to infer from a conversation. Personal pronouns are too dangerous to let be the norm. How you say things influence how you think. And how you think, ergo your mindset, determines what you can achieve.

And it starts with just giving someone an inch, 10 years later they'll be wanting a football field's worth.

I know if someone was that anal about personal pronouns i'd prefer just not talk to them unless it's work related and I have to. It's definitely weird talking about someone in 3rd person in a singular pronoun situation
Just use the name on their name badge. Chances are everyone else there will know exactly who you're referencing.

It's not that big a deal to use a term like 'they'. But it's also not that big a deal to internalise a hearty "well, fuck you too then!" and move on when someone won't use it.

If they're the type to refuse to use a given term, do you really think throwing a tantrum at them will change their minds?

Most stable people aren't extreme on either side of this issue. This is why people use each other's name. And if a personal pronoun isn't correctly used people correct themselves or someone corrects them and both move on with their lives. But it's CE so trolling with a hypothetical to stir the pot isn't a surprise.

I feel the whole pronoun situation, and the restroom situation would be solved by clarifying that they refer to genitals. "this restroom is for penii", "this restroom is for vagoos". "This pronoun is for people with penii", etc.

It's not offensive/misgendering/not recognizing the trans state since it refers to the organs
