A lot of friends that are also into boardgames.

Where do these companies base themselves where they thing people can get together with 8 or more people for a few hours at a time?

The two I am currently interested in, no. Blood on the tower needs like a dozen or more to be interesting and need real players. And Captain Sonar looks like Battleship on crack but needs 8 players to be ideal

Arent there clubs for this sort of thing? I know when I went to university there was a gamers society, which presumably would include board games.

there may also be local meet ups for people in your exact situation.

meetup etc basically enables almost everyone to get a group together, and most cities etc have game stores etc that also allow people to get together to play as well. If your in the boondocks somewhere though it must be frustrating.

Theres a lot of board games for 2 people to play nowadays too and a lot of cooperative games where a couple players play together to achieve objectives rather than compete against each other

its a great time for board games all around honestly

I imagine you would need to join a club if you want to play regularly.

I have no idea whether or not he's a racist, but apparently there are recordings of him using racial slurs so it's a distinct possibility.

Board games have always assumed that to some degree. There were never really a ton of 2-player games unless they were specifically designed for parents to play with younger kids. Most assume you're starting at 4 and going up from there, which is what most modern games assume as well.

Most gaming companies literally game at work. It's a job where all of your co-workers are also gamers. You can write games off as playtesting, and thus, part of the job.

Though it's also worth noting that they wouldn't keep making more complex "European-style" games if people didn't keep asking for them and buying them.
