Laws aren't black and white, nor are they necessarily tied to morality (Breaking curfew is illegal, but there is nothing morally wrong with being out late at night if you're not bothering anyone).

That's fine and good. Vandalism on the other hand does bother people, more specifically the person who got vandalized. That's why it is illegal and that is why the vandalizer should be prosecuted under the hardest parts of the law. The political status of the person who was vandalized is irrelevent.

You cannot be this dense kid. Being a fucking Nazi is not a political status. It's a statement. It's a statement that you are on board with the mass murder of entire races, millions of people. He's lucky all he got was vandalized.

His beliefs should have no bearing on whether or not someone who wronged him is brought to justice. After all, justice is blind.

If a fine is the largest penalty for the crime then that is what I want him to receive. Just so long as the perpetrator is punished.

See, its comments like this that make people say things like "Oh, is Duncan defending Nazis again?"

I can see nothing in this story that suggests the perpetrator deserves no sympathy or leniency.

Literally the only modifier I can see that would make a person express such a comment is the nature of the victim.

But why the largest penalty? Why not a standard penalty? Or a light penalty (Especially on a first offense)?

I personally have zero issues with the flags due to various reasons. But at least I understand the dislike they garner and seems they did too, especially with the mention of a dare.

By all means paint and do what you want, but putting some stuff out on display like that is literally just painting a target on yourself. Still sucks there was vandalism, cuz that's never fun. I hope there was at least some sort of communication requesting he put them away, but I doubt it.

How much did his art sell for? And was it insured? This could be a way to fund white supremacists, have white supremacist art, pay handsomely for it. Insure it. Let it get defaced. Collect insurance.

I said I have nothing against the flags, they may have a tainted past, but I'm not up in arms over them or supporting their cause. That said I understand and know why you shouldn't plaster them about and wonder why it draws negativity. I've never posted or flown them myself because I had no reason to do so.

I don't support racial supremacy or nazi-ism. Trust me, based on my location/life in the south it would have been very easy to become a white supremacist or bigot with neo-nazi close behind. I've never been racist, but accused of it multiple times simply for being white or being born somewhere... alright, that makes sense. If you think I must have done something or I'm in denial then it's not that either.

For the nazi flag it's more so for historical curiousity/interest. If you do any sort of looking into that era you better be able to tolerate the flag without it being censor by the wehrmacht's balkenkreuz all the time.

I'm just neutral and very jaded at this point. I guess I should be like what others have want and to be very aggressively violent over imagery and to 'pick a side'.

You assuming I have zero issues with both of those groups just reinforces my feelings/experience when I simply said I'm not bothered by the flags themselves but also understand why others would be. I also said the victim in this story seemed to know it'd be a not great idea. No one should be flying either outside of specific/historical reasons and even those draw hate.

It's not really a stretch to "assume" you have zero issue with nazism when you outright state you have nothing against nazi flags.

Not saying it is and perhaps I should have been more clear or clarified that in the post. I don't remember what I was doing when I posted that, I might have been a bit tired/distracted by something and that part slipped away. I've noticed over the years I for some reason come off as being misunderstood even when I'm super specific and clear. Then that ruffles the feathers of those who think I'm being an ass who thinks everyone's too simple minded.

You can never win.

I was going to give examples of past accusations, but I've decided not. In summary I've determined others will fly off at you for even the smallest things even if you're generally nice/tolerant for being an intolerant bigot for simply sharing the same plane of existance. Even stating common sense of following the advise that daisy chaining power strips isn't the safest idea can cause someone to believe you're an alt out to stalk and deliberately atagonize them out of the blue.
