also it's weird that Miyazaki's worst game of the decade won game of the year. Like...compared to the Souls games and Bloodborne Sekiro is complete ass. It was by far the worst game nominated for GOTY this year.

... because it's a remake. A story that's already been told and less original. I'm just happy Death Stranding didn't get it. Not because I care about these awards but because my conspiracy theory was proven wrong.

except that I like strategy games more, I think Sekiro probably was the best game I played this year. It was a pretty weak year though.

I sort of know what you mean, but it's also not really comparable. Sekiro is not as deep and doesn't have as much variety as other From games, but it's also not an RPG. It's biggest flaw to me is that it's way too short. Should have been twice as long at least. Otherwise, everything that's there is just solidly fantastic action game (not to mention thoroughly original both in gameplay and artistic content).

Aye... For games with similar themes, I liked Nioh a lottttt more than sekiro. Sekiro is by far my least favorite souls-like game I've played

sekiro was great
put as much time into it as i did mgsV

i put time into DeathStranding but i don't know why
felt like it could've been 1/3rd shorter
I wanted more travel mechanics
the online functionality felt cheap so i didn't use it

jus because you don't put 100 hours into a game that doesn't mean it's bad

I put 150 hours into YugiOh duel links that doesn't mean it deserves GotY

Bloodborne had Witcher 3 to go up against, which despite being a mediocre game at best, was praised highly by almost everyone and never was not going to win GotY.

Sekiro went up against a game from 2018, a remake of a 20 year old game, a walking simulator, a game pandering to feminists and some weird sci-fi game. The competition was almost non-existent. 2019 was a terrible year for gaming.

Agreed on the first part. The competition was just terrible this year.
But disagree on 2019 being a terrible year. Plenty of good games that didn't even get nominated, like Astral Chain, Bloodstained, and Code Vein. And smaller titles that'd never be up for GotY but are still really fun, like Cadence of Hyrule and River City Girls.
