Its not a good game. It has good moments, and its Zelda which is a mark of quality, but it lacks a certain polish and fine-tuning. Arin hated playing it over the summer on Game Grumps.

Arin playing majoras mask was the most pathetic thing Ive ever seen game grumps do. The first 10 episodes or so he kept pretending to like it and then one episode was like beginning to end a weird mental breakdown over the game. And then he spent the rest of the lp complaining and barely paying attention

He is right about saving, with the bank and restocking your items. The biggest thing he got wrong is about missing that heart container. It's basic Zelda law that you pick up the heart before going in the light

I love Game Grumps but I wish Dan had been a little more assertive with Arin and not just respond to everything he says with "yeah, uh-huh". Jon would push back and argue with him.

He could have slowed down the time before going into the Great Bay Temple boss room the first time.

Majoras Mask is in my top three favorite video games of all time.

I enjoyed the AVGN episode on it, but yeah a good chunk of his grips were on him or over exaggerated.

That's kind of the point of these good game retrospective videos. Earthbound was the same, a lot of nit picky complaints for humor, but obviously still a good game.

he also never mentioned how if you defeat a boss, a warp point spawns at the beginning of a dungeon that takes you straight to the boss. James wouldn't have had to really do that much work to refight the boss and get the heart. That warp point remains even if you go back in time too. Probably one of his weakest knocks against MM he made.

Alot of the other stuff he complains about aren't necessarily wrong, but as I recall it they are generally pretty avoidable if you are familiar with the time limit and how it works and in what ways it is strict. the only time the time limit really becomes a b**** is when dealing with the Anju and Kafei quest I think but I could be forgetting something.

While MM has its iffiness or its tedium (which to some extent is natural due to the nature of the game), I don't think it's really enough to take away from the game's overall quality or how otherwise genius the time limit is.

He's not totally wrong. I have no idea why any of the designers thought a time limit gimmick (even a forgiving one) would be a good idea in a Zelda title. Especially like he says, dealing with botched quests or specific time gating (waiting).

I didn't get very far in Majora's Mask, but I played and beat OOT at least a dozen times over the years. I've always been baffled by all those "MM is the best Zelda" people.

I was thinking that about the warp point too, and how some of the stuff he was going on about can be fixed by gitting gud. He's gotta have material though so whatever. Avgn gonna avgn

I massively don't understand how people can watch stuff at Game Grumps. I am not saying I only want to see pros play games. But people that are just plain bad at games. How is that anything but frustrating?

if game grumps didn't have inappropriate jokes then it would just be a show with two people playing games for the first time. that's their appeal.

Majora's Mask spoiled other games for me. The 3-day cycle schedule the characters had made them seem alive and like real people. In my mind, the very time limit so many people hate is exactly what allowed the game to be as great as it is.

It's kind of fun to see them try to figure things out. Sometimes it gets frustrating, but it's part of the charm. Comments will always make some sly remark about "In this episode Arin takes 10 minutes to remember something the game told him last episode" but it's in the code of Game Grumps to be inefficient and bumbling.

They're also funny people in general. Nobody's looking for pro tips or smooth gameplay.

It's been a while since I watched Game Grumps. My issue with Arin isn't so much that he was bad at the game or was allergic to the shield button, my issue was his whole "HOW COULD PEOPLE LIKE THESE GAMES" mindset when playing 3D Zeldas (or other games for that matter), or how he would throw temper tantrums when he was ****ing up over stuff most probably wouldn't or over stuff he WOULDN'T **** up if he payed more attention.

If he was being bad at the game and just simply laughed it off or didn't really react to it at all and just continued talking to Danny, and didn't crap on people for liking things he doesn't like or care for, I wouldn't have given a **** at all about him being bad at Zelda.

I dont think Arin was wrong about Majoras Mask. It is a flawed and frustrating game at times.

i beat that stupid fish boss with about 2 hours on the clock to spare and last heart container.

then after that dungeon i found out there was a song to slow time...

A lot of the problems he has with the game were because he wasnt very good at it. Yeah there are legit problems with the game but nothing major. The time limit isnt an issue at all either unless you are bad and its a legit time limit and not just a mood setter.

Never did like Majoras Mask as much as some of the other Zelda games although I appreciated its uniqueness.

The only time the time limit is ass is for the Anju and Kafei quest like someone said in the topic already and mostly because the ending portion is so tight.

Some of the stuff Ill give him. Other stuff is just baffling to me.

Who is going to the bank and restocking their consumables at the beginning of every cycle?

Why is anyone not abusing warps and starting each dungeon at the beginning of an inverted cycle? The side quests to open them are usually long enough that youre probably thinking about resetting anyway. The only time a dungeon should run you close to the end is if youre blindly looking for the optional fairy fragments.

A lot of common complaints just should not be a problem for anyone who actually tries. >_>

He does bring up good points about the punishment for failure though. This is one of my GOAT games and even then thereve been times I had to turn it off because I was getting mad lol. But I actually like it for stuff like the Cremia quest because it just feels so satisfying to succeed, and theres only a few like that.

I mean its obviously James childhood. Its not James Rolfe, but his AVGN character that is looking at these games from a modern day perspective though.

You will see parts of James bleed into the character like that. After all, the channel did start on the back of shitty games from his childhood playing Nintendo. Though, he is actually a great guy and not at all angry like his character.
