Rules:

1) Players are divided into two divisions. Each round, players will face one opponent in two categories. These categories are: "Fight" and "Pitch".
2) "Fight" matches should be voted on with the following criteria: "Who would win in a fight?"
-Characters are expected to have the abilities (and limitations) from their last living appearance.
-All fights will take place on a habitable uncolonized moon of Saturn where there is a temperate climate, water, air, flora, fauna, etc.
-Teams are kept in an isolated, impenetrable chamber prior to the beginning of conflict and are unaware of their opponents until the fight begins.
-The only directive supplied to these teams is that they must defeat their opponents. If the do not attempt to do so, Earth will be destroyed.
-Voters should consider the potential conflicts within teams as a factor (can characters with negative relationships work together), as well as the intelligence of the characters, resourcefulness, etc.
3) "Pitch" matches should be voted on with the following criteria: "Which pitch would make a better series?"
-All pitches must take place in the Marvel Universe (616). No alternate realities or future skips, etc. It must take place alongside the rest of Marvel continuity.
-Voters should consider team name, roster, cohesiveness, quality of concept, and whether the team fits with the concept, among any other criteria they wish to consider.
-Voters should NOT consider whether a dead character is suddenly alive in this pitch. Voters SHOULD consider other aspects of team status; if characters would make sense working together, if characters have abilities that are mutually exclusive, etc.
-Pitches should be one paragraph (No more than two).
-Players can rewrite/rework their pitches between each round.
4) Anyone who is not involved in a specific match can vote for either team in either category. The player with the most votes in one of the categories will get a win in said category.
5) After each player has faced seven opponents, the players with the best "Fight" records in each division will face off and the players with the best "Pitch" records will face off.
6) Rosters each week will be made up ONLY of 6 members of the team. Every character must be active against at least three distinct opponents. Every character must also be inactive against at least three distinct opponents.
9) Between rounds, players may make one-for-one trades with any other player.
10) Rosters must always house exactly ten members.
11) Voting ends in 72 hours.

Their shared values of independence freedom ironically led them together again and again.

Match #2

Spy Calibur-X
The sword, Excalibur, has gone missing. The woman who had possession of it, Faiza Hussain, believed in it being stolen. The Black Knight, Dane Whitman, was around her when she made the discovery, which led him to turn to a long time friend in Brian Braddock. Braddock decided this would be a new job for Excalibur, and began to contact former members to rejoin. Pete Wisdom and Sage were the first to respond and join.

As the four of them could not make a team, Captain Britain decided to bring in a small number of mutants that were grouping together without a leader, Wolfsbane (who had also been on Excalibur prior), Morph, and Gentle. He also brought in psychiatrist Valerie Cooper to manage them, as each had some emotional problems. Pete Wisdom brought in an old friend who once tried to help him retrieve Excalibur before in Gambit, and Sage picked up a school teacher, Lionheart, who was trying to find her children. Though Lionheart could have some alternate motivations for joining the team. Can this newly build Excalibur use espionage to find and get back Excalibur? After returning from a dystopian future where psychic invaders have decimated the human and mutant populations, Gateway teleports to the Xavier School to make contact with Charles Xavier.

Fight Lineup:
Captain Britain
Pete Wisdom
Sage
Gentle
Valerie
Morph

X-treme
Upon learning of this dark future Xavier promptly gathers former and current students Monet St. Croix, Wild Child, Sprite, and Triage. As the Professor explains the situation to his studends an unfamiliar man with a familiar face walks in - Bran Braddock a.k.a. Crusader X - who has built a device that has detected the approach of what seems to be the alien invaders. In order to combat this threat Professor X decides he'll need to recruit two more individuals who he knows will be reluctant to join - Mimic and Copycat. With their unique abilities to copy anyone's powers this will give the team several individuals with high level psychic powers. While Copycat took little convincing when she learns of this possible future, Calvin agrees only to help when necessary as his powers can be overwhelming. With the team set a strong gust of wind hits and Longshot, able to read psychic imprints, informs the team of something he's learned - the invaders are already here!

Match #3
MartinFF7 vs. DeathChicken

Brotherhood of Righteous Mutants
When Gabriel Summers was tasked with forming a new team of X-Men, he recruited mutants craving power (Phoebe Cuckoo, Vanisher), purpose (Elixir, Tempus, Joseph), or simply a second chance (X-Man, Gaia, Petra) and enlisted his brother Cyclops - the X-Men's greatest leader - to guide them. Their goal: ensuring freedom and security for all peoples, whether human or mutant.

Forgoing the typical "X"-team moniker for the irony-laden "Brotherhood of Righteous Mutants", Gabriel's team's heroics are cover for the dark truth: to enable his quest for power, purpose, and a second chance at ruling the galaxy, starting with Earth. Every win brings he and his team one step closer, to the freedom and security guaranteed under the modern-day Caesar: Emperor Vulcan!

Fight Lineup:
Vulcan (Gabriel Summers)
Elixir (Joshua Foley)
X-Man (Nate Grey)
Joseph
Tempus (Eva Bell)
Gaia

Doops X-Angels
The mysterious and deadly floating potato known as Doop assembles a wetworks squad, dedicated to taking jobs too clandestine and dangerous for your average hero! Shadowcat: Doop's former love interest and intangible genius! Bloodstorm: Alternate reality version of Storm, bitten by Dracula and possessed of vampiric powers! Also killed Kitty back in her home dimension and feels badly about it! Warbird: Shiar warrior lady, also had a thing with Doop at one point! That potato gets around! Blink: Master of the teleport! Thankfully didn't have any sort of romance with Doop! Revanche: Doppleganger of Psylocke and psychic ninja! Callisto: One eyed former queen of the Morlocks! Omega Sentinel: Police officer turned nanomachine robot! Amanda Sefton: Honest to goodness card carrying witch! Feral: Barely controlled cat lady who plays by her own rules!

On paper, Doop has assembled a team of highly skilled operatives, with enough varied powers to overcome any situation. But can they overcome their own melodrama? They are Doop's X-Angels! The X was editorially mandated!

Fight Lineup:
Doop
Shadowcat
Revanche
Blink
Bloodstorm
Omega Sentinel

Match #4
Johnbobb vs. IhatethisCPU

Mutant Liberation Alliance
With incredible new powers and no longer speadheading the X-Force, Theresa Cassidy goes out in search of a new team to lead to fill the void left by Jamie Madrox. She happens upon a lone Cloak who is desperately searching for his suddenly missing partner Dagger. Together they form the Mutant Liberation Alliance, a group of like-minded mutants with the mission to independently free any mutant under duress or being held against their will. Siryn brings together her previous teammates Sunspot and Darwin while Cloak contacts previous teammate Iceman, as well as a handful of young mutants including Jimmy Hudson, the son of Wolverine looking to find his place in the world, and Wind Dancer, a young woman Siryn takes a special interest in as a sort of protege, who is herself lost after the disbanding of the New Warriors.

Meanwhile, Siryn brings in a unknown mutant with incredible powers simply going by the name Reflection. Unbeknownst to the others AND to the readers, Siryn has located and hypnotically seduced the cruel Sebastian Shaw, secretly utilizing his vast array of resources while keeping him disguised, which will be slowly revealed over time. With Siryn and Cloak using their teleportation to lead the way, the team goes out in search of both Dagger and any other missing or captured mutants.

Fight Lineup:
Siryn
Sunspot
Iceman
Armor
Darwin
Wind Dancer

Object Impermutants
The troubles started when Kitty Pryde went missing two weeks ago. First, she was simply MIA, then days went past and no one could contact her, and then... people began denying having ever known her to begin with. James Howlett, Charles Xavier, even Peter Rasputin expressed confusion, even saying they'd never even heard her name before. Then others began to disappear, the people that had loved them paying no mind, as if they'd been erased from existance. Kurt Wagner, otherwise known as Nightcrawler, his daughter, T.J, or Nocturne, are visited by others that are discovering that their compatriots and families are forgetting them as well, even when they're with them.

This started from Layla Miller, whose visions of the future are being corrupted by people hat once prominently featured in them vanishing, to Karasu, whose brother no longer acknowledges her, to young Gabby Kinney, whose adopted sister, X-23, is beginning to not remember who she is, although both are fighting to stave off the Vanishing. A situation that Kurt, to his horror, is starting to realize is beginning to be mirrored with T.J. They gather those four, along with six others with smaller social circles that are also at risk of Vanishing. Can they discover the cause, and who's responsible in this 12 issue series? *

*This is being pitched as a 12 issues series because Nightcrawler has never had a starring/leadig role in a series that went past 12 issues, and I am managing expectations.

Fight Lineup:
Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner) (Leader)
Chamber (Jono Starsmore)
Honey Badger (Gabby Kinney)
Dust (Sooraya Qadir)
Sway (Suzanne Chan)
No-Girl (Martha Johansson)

So I'll get the ball rolling (not voting yet, just spurring convo) with my thoughts on the pitches:

Rocket X - Simple, great concept, so-so execution. X-23 gets a solo title disguised as a team title (which is probably all she could carry) with a consistent overarching villain. I don't like Jean Grey on this team at all, and Colossus and Cannonball feel kind of boring here as well. Boom-Boom , Bling and Darkstar are where the magic happens here, but having two pretty bland stars who overshadow X-23 completely hurts the focus of the title. Feels like they're babysitting. Also, no idea why Rocket is in the name.

Mutant Intent - The name is a sticking point for me here. I like the use of non-Xers in higher positions. Juggernaut and Firestar are not traditional X-team members, and that makes them interesting. The pieces of 90s X-Men here are also pretty intriguing (Random, Synch). The concept feels a little vague, and the name blows, but I like the line-up. Needs, like, one more big star.

Spy Calibur-X - Probably my overall favorite line-up in this entire draft, by itself it has the FEEL of Excalibur. Even the new members fit. And I kind of like the espionage aspect combined with the biggest star of the title, Gambit. Gambit and Captain Britain feels like a potentially excellent pairing we've never seen before. But man, this pitch is all over the place. It focuses so much on an origin that I really don't get a feel for what the title is about. And the name is just too overthought. I'd like X-Calibre, or eXcalibur, or NeXtCalibur or something simple.

Brotherhood of Righteous Mutants - Interesting concept, great name. Hate the line-up. I feel like we'd all be really twisting the arms of these characters to fit square peg personalities into round hole roles. Why wouldn't X-Man just wash his hands of this immediately? Why is Joseph even here? And why is Cyclops suddenly on a team with Vulcan with no explanation? This team is the opposite of Spy-Calibur X.

Doop's X-Angels - Absolutely loathe the name X-Angels. X-Men has a character named Angel, first of all. And there's this bizarre trend for people to push Charlie's Angels in team concepts on this board. There's also a weird something that smacks of archaic feminine roles here. Also, if Doop is the center of this team, I think we'd tire of it quickly. The rest of the line-up is pretty damn great however. Nine of these people together would have oodles of potential chemistry. I think it's all disguised in a goofy concept that hides the serious potential here, however.

Mutant Liberation Alliance - MLA Format. The line-up here has potential, and pushing for Siryn to have her long-deserved break-out performance is great. I really dislike Sebastian Shaw here. The whole value of Shaw is his plotting brilliance, and this turns him into sort of nothing. I think his inclusion is overthought. I also think this team needs, like, one more big star. Iceman is the only guy here who could sell a comic book. The rest are decent to great supporting stars, but you need a big name here to really boost Siryn's credibility.

Object Impermutants - The name is awesome, brilliant, and designed for one story arc. But the pitch is also for a limited series, which for some reason bothers me. At least you picked your shot, but the fact that this team is being limited so quickly irks me. I think the real focus here is on family, and I like that - I'd love to see it played up more. Nocturne and Nightcrawler together are what make this a must-read.

My major concern with my concept is a simple one, and pretty much the only reason I'm pitching it as a 12 issue limited run. Kurt's solo books have never made it past issue 12, despite the fact that it's... *reasonably* safe to say that he's well-liked, yeah?

My basic thought process is start with the twelve issue run, if it sells well enough, if it gets enough interest part of the way, or the team in charge thinks 12 issues isn't time for it to cover what it needs to finish properly, then it can be *extended*. If my cynicism holds up, and I *really* hope I'm wrong, as I usually do, but if I'm not then it can have a proper conclusion... or a hook for future.

I might have been burned by too many series elsewhere being cancelled by lack of sales before they got a decent ending. @__@'

I dropped the rest of my "pitch" in a post and it was so far over the post character limit, eh... guess I'll need to split it up.

So the "Brotherhood of Righteous Mutants" series kind of plays out Thunderbolts-style, Gabriel's team gradually amassing power behind the scenes and moving chess pieces into place before they can strike. Time to dump some deeper character rationale...

Picture Gabriel Summers. This guy was running and expanding the Shi'ar empire... now he's back on Earth and being asked to form an X-team. It's an insult. It's a fall from grace. He's had time to examine how things went wrong: he was impetuous, he was impatient, he was careless. He formulates a plan, a different approach, meticulous, thoughtful and gradual; ultimately culminating in his return to glory!

Vulcan and Cyclops were robbed of a childhood, a lifetime together. While the only connection they have is blood, there is no stronger bond. Gabriel offers the opportunity for the two of them to work together, to catch up and form that relationship they were never able to truly have, for Cyclops to lead his team as the greatest of all X-Men team leaders... Cyclops couldn't refuse the offer.

X-Man had a dream of mutants all living in peace. He tried to force this dream, first on the "real" world, and then in his alternate reality, "the Age of X-Man". In his hubris he forced his own belief system on everyone based on his own upbringing - cold, isolated, lacking any true emotion or interpersonal relationships - and it ultimately fell apart. He stayed behind in his fake reality, but Gabriel was able to reach out and access him with his offer. World peace IS achievable, without vast swathes of the population being mind-controlled, or mass-murdered, or reality-altered. Though those are always options...

In any case, Gabriel makes a compelling case to X-Man, with whatever time he has left before his powers kill him, to help Gabriel and his team achieve this goal. They may be able to find a way to extend his lifespan, or cure his condition. But reading his mind and understanding his plan, X-Man sees Gabriel Summers as being a true option for peace in their time... however much time there's left, for him.

Gaia spent "thousands of years chained to the Universal Amalgamator at the end of Time" prior to her being freed and joining Generation X. In X-Man #50, she and Nate had a deep conversation about the world, which was still so new for both of them. Their meeting had such a profound impact on her that in her next issue (Generation X #51), she left the team to experience the world for herself, to live a little and learn through doing, citing that conversation as the main driver.

This series would show how travelling the world showed her the good, and also showed her the bad, how cruel and evil some people can be. When offered to join a team whose end goal is the protection and enablement of those good people - not just on Earth, but throughout the cosmos - it was a compelling offer. The opportunity to work with X-Man again, who she had never forgotten since their first encounter, sealed the deal. The dichotomy of her - a potentially-immortal being who appears to be a young woman - contrasted with X-Man who was grown in a lab, only truly lived for a few years and whose lifespan is running out... how much time will they have together, in the end?

Petra and Gabriel had their opportunity for happiness stolen from them. Looking at Moira's original team, there's no way these two wouldn't have ended up together - it's a classic high school quarterback/cheerleader scenario. They both lost their parents and have the shared pain of a life of suffering during their formative years. Gabriel never forgot about her and she was more than eager to join his team when offered. It doesn't hurt that her power can create diamonds, which would secretly be used to fund his operation...

On the surface, the "Brotherhood" is all about bringing together heroes, and former villains, who seem to be drifting aimlessly. What is Joseph's reason for being? As a clone of Magneto he possesses the full breadth of his powers, and the same passion for the betterment of mutants, but nobody needs a clone when the real deal is kicking around and fighting for their rights. Gabriel shows him the potential for a new path to guarantee mutantkind's survival, eschewing the typical terrorism or attacks on government entities and militaries that he would otherwise espouse. Everybody loves a good "redemption" story, which is how Joseph's heroic turn would be framed as; and maybe, after they've succeeded, he would have his own mutant fiefdom to rule over...

Similarly, Vanisher joins as another "redemption" project for the group, presenting as a reformed villain; but in reality he's fully on board with Gabriel's plan, and his global teleportation abilities help serve those ends - and his own, continuing to build up his criminal empire in the shadows.

Gabriel specifically recruits Tempus as a potential love interest for Cyclops (Emma and Jean are dead or off doing their own thing). She did have a crush on him at an earlier time, even if they didn't part on the best of terms - with her threatening to erase him from existence if he didn't get his shit together. She is able to see said shit having been gotten and maybe those past feelings are being rekindled... she isn't brought into Gabriel's plans immediately though, and her powers certainly pose the greatest risk to his success given her powerset. Gabriel knows he needs to have her on board before he strikes and believes her connection with Cyclops will help accomplish that.

Elixir and Phoebe Cuckoo round out the cast for, ultimately, a potential endgame of Gabriel's master plan: resurrection + memory implanting. Throughout the series they can gradually build up a secret army composed of any villains - or even other heroes - who "unfortunately" get killed off along the way. They would be teleported away by Vanisher, resurrected by Elixir, memory-implanted by Phoebe (and X-Man) to align them on their side, and put in cryosleep in their off-the-books facilities (funded through selling Petra's diamonds, among other means), gradually assembling a secret army until the day they make their move.

Elixir does seem rather aimless, drifting across villainous and heroic lines throughout his career. Reavers, New Mutants, X-Men, X-Force, Brotherhood, Hellfire Club. He could see the merits in Gabriel's plans, and knows his Biokinesis ability would serve a major role in achieving it. Elixir's past connection with Vanisher both in X-Force and the Hellfire Club could also provide a kind of odd-couple buddy comedy, mentor/mentee type of relationship.

Phoebe Cuckoo also serves as another potential love interest - famously known as the one Cuckoo sister without a previous romantic entanglement - for Elixir, and maybe there's a will they/won't they arc there, but her real reason for joining the team was the promise of power, and with Gabriel's ultimate plan for universal conquest, a shot at re-gaining the Phoenix Force once more.

Didn't meant to go full-on fanfiction territory here but yeah, every character was chosen for a reason and a purpose...ultimate universal conquest!! And the team specifically eschews well-established heroes and tentpole X-Men characters (other than Cyclops) for that very reason.

In the end, it's all about connections.

Vulcan - Cyclops
Vulcan - Petra
Cyclops - Tempus
X-Man - Gaia
Elixir - Vanisher
Elixir - Phoebe Cuckoo

Joseph is the odd one out, for sure, but it'll provide for an exploration of his forging a new path, his own life, as a doppelganger living under the shadow & expectations of his progenitor.

I know it seems like I'm 50/50ing with my first votes, but that's my honest opinions. I think that Emma and Juggernaut together don't have a strong counter on the other side; without either of them, Jean's got a chance of superiority all on her own. It's also tough because three fire-types at once could be detrimental, but there's no one to suppress the fury. Meanwhile, Rocket X surpisingly has one of my favorite pitches. Succinct, tells a solid story, good enough cast.

The second match was a lot tougher. I don't really want to solicit either book, but I like the story setup in Spy Calibur-X more, and both fights are alright, but I give the nod to M and Wild Child.

Third match is a curbstomp fight for sure, but the pitch was the hardest match-up of the round. I think the Doop's X-Angels is a dumb name, poor pitch, and I don't really know what the book is about aside from ladies going into action. But I think I would still read it over team super awesome conquers the galaxy.

And I loooove Match Four. The fight is super interesting and if we can change votes, I might do so later, but right now... ahhh, I love that fight. Really interesting and dynamic teams that complement the other side well. And I scroll up to double-check the pitches again because as much as I like the Siryn team and how they came together, and as bad (or brilliantly bad) as Object Impermutants is, that is a book I want to buy. I love the premise, how they came together, and as a limited series, I know we'll likely get great story beats and conclusions.

Match 1:

Pitch is an easy easy win for Mutant Intent.

That Rocket X team is a great team but none of them matter because this is an X-23 solo book and X-23 like all the wolverine clones is sort of meh for me on her own. Just a criminal waste of your colorful supporting cast.

Not in love with Mutant Intent by the way just the book is far less flawed and Emma Frost os doing Emma Frost things but the rest of the team has a lot of ?s about their roles too.

Fight feels like it goes to Rocket X . Mutant Intent has a metric buttload of offensive power but Darkstars ability to manipulate terrain is going to force things to get a little more close quarters where Bling! and Boom Boom start to turn into heavy carries. Jean Greys presence also prevents Emma from going all front liner because she's gonna be needed to fight off Marvel Girl. Ultimately Mutant Intent needs some more utility powers to set up their implosive fiery core.

Time to offer my thoughts for this group:

redrocket vs. banananor
I like the simplicity of the Rocket-X concept for sure. Boom-Boom adds great personality to the team. But I do see a lot of characters being there just for the sake of being there. I think Lockheed sticks out especially. Needs a new name to connect better with the team I think. Mutant Intent is just a little weird to me. I don't really grasp what it's about and I feel like there's too many fire characters. Vote leans towards redrocket.

Wicklebee vs. ChichiriMuyo
Spy Calibur-X is definitely one of my favorites of this project. While I think the initial spark could use a little work, I have nothing but positive things to say about this roster and their amazing potential chemistry. The espionage focus sounds wonderful. X-treme has so many psychics! The concept isn't terrible but the cast, not my cup of tea exactly. Leaning towards Wickle.

MartinFF7 vs. DeathChicken
I enjoy the concept but like scarlet said, even with the latest justifications, the cast doesn't work for me. From a reader's perspective, I'm not really liable to care about these connections honestly. DeathChicken's X-Angels has the exact the opposite problem. I think even with the incredible roster I feel this would fizzle out after like 6 issues. Vote leans towards Martin.

Johnbobb vs. IhatethisCPU
Besides the Sebastian Shaw addition, I think the MLA has awesome potential. The concept supports itself and there's real potential for great storylines. Object Impermutants has another of my favorite rosters and a great, great twist on future plots. I woulld be compelled to read both of these, but I have to lean towards ihatethiscpu right now.

Match 2:

Pitch: Can I just vote Spy Caliber X in every match combination for this group? This is the only title from this group I would spend money on. The book lacks a true drawing card but that's really the only knock on it. The whole group fits together like a swiss watch and I like that.

X-treme feels meh. This squad was clearly assembled for the battle strategy and the pitch was forced around that strategy. The actual pitch feels uninspired and none of the character dynamics interest me. And when your top drawing cards are professor X and Monet St Croix you done fucked up.

Fight:

I hate X-Treme with a passion but their battle strat is obvious and top notch: Use Gateway to travel, use the psychics to lock people down and let Crusader X and wild child mop up.

Spy-Calibur actually matches up surprisingly well here though to the point where this match to some extent boils down to M and Crusader X vs Morph and captain Britain and M really feels like she tips the scales here.

also, I'll break down my fight a little bit. The abilties of my characters for those who don't know.

Siryn - Sonic screams, flight at the speed of sound, can render people sick or unconscious, shatter objects, concussive blasts, hypnotic suggestion. Recently became The Morrigan, giving her teleportation, healing, enhanced longevity and other unclear mystical powers.
Sunspot - Absorbs solar energy, as well as heat, light and radiation, all of which give him super strength, flight, concussive blasts and heat projection.
Iceman - Probably the best known mutant on my team with obvious powers, but it should be noted he can manipulate ice and water on a molecular level, can freeze the earth, create clones of himself, and become virtually indestructable
Armor - Psionic exoskeleton surrounding her that is nearly impenetrable and gives her superstrength
Darwin - Body adapts to any power or environment to survive, gaining durability, breathing in space or underwater, turning into energy, becoming fireproof, with limitless possibilities. Could not be killed by Hela, the goddess of death.
Wind Dancer - Basically an airbender. As a sidenote, has previously defeated Dust

I'll address the fight for a moment and note that I have a surprisingly cohesive battle squad going here. They're all X-affiliated in some way or another, so familiarity. Doop and Bloodstorm (literally Storm with Dracula powers. She got bit) pretty much loved Kitty in their own ways. Revanche's latest appearance had her resurrect as Basically Psylocke to deal with the telepathy end of things, Blink to move everyone around, Omega to play heavy gunner.

Helps that I believe as of their most recent appearances, Nate Grey was dying of Life Seed poisoning and Vulcan had been rendered a mindless vegetable. I could be mistaken, going from memory

Fight
redrocket vs. banananor
Wicklebee vs. ChichiriMuyo
MartinFF7 vs. DeathChicken
Johnbobb vs. IhatethisCPU

I'm voting based on if I'd read this issue/book or not

Pitch
redrocket vs. banananor

While bananas team is better, I wanted to read redrockets story more because the cast isnt the snoozefest I'd expect a Weapon X story to be about.

Wicklebee vs. ChichiriMuyo
I really don't care for Exacalibur stories but this was better put together. It sounds like it could be sneaky good. Xtreme didnt make me want to read it at all. I was hoping there would be something outright crazy with multiple copy power mutants but they seem more tacked on than anything

MartinFF7 vs. DeathChicken
Another could have been pitch here. The vulcan centric xmen just doesnt seem to have reason or intrigue especially if its all about dat vulcan. The Doop book sounds stupid....in a way I'd read the entire thing

Johnbobb vs. IhatethisCPU
Johns pitch is great the problem is he doesnt own Dagger, he cannot use Dagger unless he gets her in a trade. Therefore this book never can go anywhere. BUT Ihatethiscpus pitch is more about characters he doesnt own instead, like a majority of it. Because of this John gets a win

from what I understand, characters not owned can appear in it, just not as members of the team (ex. the teams can still have villains they face against, etc.)

While the quest to find Dagger would be one of the main motivations, Dagger herself wouldn't be the focus, but rather how Cloak manages without her.

"Brotherhood" is about Vulcan as much as Thunderbolts - well, at least the original Thunderbolts run when I read it - was about Citizen V. He brings them together but it's really a team/ensemble story. I'll try to better incorporate that in the future pitch.

It's a tricky spot, the concept being a little different and not using a team of standard/established heroes; though it was designed that way on purpose, to be a cross-stitch of disregarded or underused characters. I wonder how the original pitch for "Exiles" went... though the multiverse-hopping gimmick is more appealing.

But then it is also tricky that these aren't immediately the kind of characters that'll excite people, since they aren't as established. But it would work! In my mind, at least...

No, they aren't *about* the characters that I mentioned earlier, and I don't understand where you got 'they couldn't even be referenced'. They're background characters, building blocks in the storyline, people the Vanishing has also happened to and a way to explain what's been happening, (And also none of them are characters in other teams in my block, which is partially why I namedropped them.) a way to explain how the team came to be, and why the characters would be involved in the team to begin with. I didn't mention most of the folk on them because of the limitations on the pitch itself as requested.

The story itself is centered around the Object Impermutants team, and how the events are effecting them.

Match 3:

Martin has gone through with a crap load of effort to justify his nigh-unjustifiable team and....and it's kinda just fallen flat? I still am not buying it after all of that. Thunderbolts really at its core is a concept that requires FUN villains and heroes who have reasons to go morally gray. Vulcan is really dreary. Cyclops is a good selling point maybe but is again...just so fucking dreary. Phoebe is the dullest of the Cuckoos, X-Man is sort of too all or nothing to be a bit player and he's an anti-draw in terms of sales....there is ultimately no one in this book that leads to a proper Thunderbolts feel. This team BADLY needs Magneto in place of Vulcan because a lot of chips start to fall into place with him but there would still be a lot of answers needed. It also needs just a big dumb fun villain in place of someone that sucks. In the short term, in terms of fixes that can be made right now, Hellion or Warlock for instance would have been a huge improvement on Phoebe Cuckoo and Tempus who provide nothing at all in terms of pitch strength. But even with those changes made, the lynchpin here is still Vulcan and Vulcan is not compelling in this role and that's ultimately the challenge Martin has ahead of him.

Fortunately for Martin he drew a lazy team concept to face here so this was still a somewhat difficult decision. Doop's X-Angels is so uninspired and should probably at least involved either Angel or Archangel. That said the team itself has oodles of charisma and lots of interesting ways they interact. If DC can rework the title so that Doop isn't at the center of everything this has great potential. Hire yourself Amanda Conner and go off to the races. That said this teams was practically DESIGNED to sell books and even as a cheesecake book it has more potential that Vulcans team of blagh. Advantage: X-Angels

Fight vote:

Any team that brings both Vulcan and X-Man to bear has a lot of firepower at its disposal. But any fight with X-Man has to contend with the fact that currently in canon he has to be on his own little world to have any real power without you know, dying. And Vulcan really does not play well with others to the point where I dont see this working. Joseph and Tempus are both very willful and X-Man isn't exactly just gonna go with anyones flow here. Meanwhile, casting Omega Sentinel on a team that is mostly just wetworks operatives is a good idea because that gives her a reason to play along with shadowcat and the like and ultimately I just can't see Martin's team co-existing long enough to beat a team of 6 pretty competent assassin types like this. X Angels

Match 4:

Pitch

Object Impermutants this is a strong focused title. It veers a little bit into rocket-X territory being too focused on Nightcrawler but the focus on family and the presence of Nocturne and the emphasis on family all really works, though in the face of a real team book I don't think it stands up. I do think it has some juice to it and with the promise of a 12 issue run, I probably buy this in trade paperback format pending the reviews.

MLA by contrast is a book that badly badly wants Wolverine but doesn't have him. And I get that that can be problem. I don't think Cloak has the juice to be the center of story's melodrama and you've reduced your two legitimate stars - Iceman and Siryn - to bit roles within your own pitch. This is a story that i also don't really know what it's about after the pitch. It has potential but as it stands I don't see the there there and if as a fan of Iceman if I see him serving a tertiary role in this book, I don't buy issue two.

Fight:

No-Girl and Chamber are really kind of the keys to this fight. No-Girl in particular is a VERY powerful psychic as long as her teammates can keep her safe and Chamber's own psychic abilities and sonokinesis plays into that very well. Iceman isn't playing to the best of his abilities on a team like this but he and sunspot together is pretty compelling.

I can still be swayed here but I think the psychics swing the thing for team Impermutants

ANyway, was catching up onsleep, it's been.... kind of a rough week emotionally, napping whenever I can. And I am *extremely basic*, I don't really focus on the fights themselves, action isn'tone of those thing I put much thought into. Not to say I don't like good action, it's just not a priority for me. *I am also largely illogical at times.*

Fight
redrocket vs. banananor
Wicklebee vs. ChichiriMuyo
MartinFF7 vs. DeathChicken
Johnbobb vs. IhatethisCPU Legally can't vote. I genuinely adore Johnbobb's team and concept, although the Shaw thing brings someone else to mind. I can't place who, if I'm even remembering correctly or if I'm just making it up in my head, however.

Pitch
redrocket vs. banananor I appreciate the attempt beyond the team more. The end goal for the team, and start of the concept. The team name *sucks*, and it's a little... I don't think Cain and Emma can make a team work for a long period. Rocket X is.... it's a case where the book-mandated 'star power' in Peter and fucking Jean Grey drags the book down more than it's infinitely more interesting supporting cast brings it up. It doesn't help that their presence overshadows Laura, even though it's her book.

Wicklebee vs. ChichiriMuyo
...So I'm gonna say it right now, and you've heard this a lot already, but barring the name Spy Calibur-X is one of my favorite teams in this entire project. Excellent premise, excellent team, and a decent explanation for how it'd work altogether.

Please forgive me for saying this, the name doesn't help your team, Chichi. It's better than certain others in the project but it ticks bad generic 90's antihero memories in my head. The team isn't particularly interesting character-wise, but *battle strategy-wise* it makes sense. That's the only point for it, and it kind of feels like this team was built for the punching portion of the project.

MartinFF7 vs. DeathChicken
I like most of DC's team as individuals, and their interactions fit the title, and would make me somewhat interested in the book as a one-time thing. Martin's premise is more interesting, although I... can't see the team working together all that well. Good concept, against good team.

There are two things that push me towards Martin's team. One, I irrationally hate DC's team name, especially when there have been fantastic gal-centric teams that haven't be reduced to the Charlie's Angels idea before. And two, Doop's a bigger snitch than Cyclops is.

I don't particularly get that argument

Action-wise, Jimmy Hudson fills the role Wolverine would be carrying, and his role in this would be primarily to distinguish himself as a hero independent from Wolverine

Eddv posted...

ok so the way I break this down

Dust is useless here. Her weaknesses are primarily air and water, which is covered by both Wind Dancer and Iceman. Nightcrawler is also not going to do a whole lot combat-wise. He's extremely fast, but he's not the only teleporter here, and ultimately isn't going to be able to damage Armor, Iceman, Darwin or Siryn in any way. Sway's time magic is good up close, but doesn't have much effect on ranged enemies, so Siryn/Sunspot/Iceman have a huge upper hand on her. Honey Badger is again great up close against physical enemies, but ultimately can't hurt Iceman/Armor/Darwin and can be overpowered by ranged enemies like Sunspot and Siryn.

I'll concede that the biggest threats definitely are the psychics, but No-Girl's effectiveness ultimately boils down to how effective her team is at protecting her extremely fragile form, and ultimately they're not going to be particularly effective here.

I'd argue Chamber is definitely the biggest challenge my team faces, but that's where Iceman and Siryn comes in handy the most. Chamber's auditory illusions would interrupted by Siryn's screeches, as her control over sound can dictate what can and cannot be heard by the people around her. Meanwhile, Camber's existence is dependent on the psionic flame in his core, which Iceman could snuff out on a molecular level.

Honestly, that's why I have Siyrn leading instead of Iceman. Iceman's a spectacular hero, but Siryn is a born leader. She's a badass with a dark past, incredible powers, and years of leadership experience with X-Force

Right you have a tricky situation on your hands because you have a good strong leader and a good drawing card but they don't go hand in hand - it's just difficult to see what iceman contributes to the team beyond just being popular - sort of the same conundrum storm's team has.

I'm not sure how I would re-work around that but that is my biggest issue with your team comp.

I hand over my "crap load of effort" crown to Eddv, nice analyses. I'll probably do the absolute bare minimum when I vote, already put way more time into this/reading the relevant comics than I should have...

But just one item I want to clarify, since it's kind of critical for future fight weeks: X-Man is 100% physically present on the battlefield with access to his usual powerset, with the "body killing himself" factor which really wasn't an issue in his last fights. I would consider him as being at Uncanny Vol. 5 Issue 10 power levels, which conveniently for me, has him tanking dozens of mutants single-handedly. Feels like that power got downplayed a little (current canon being moot for this)

Other than that, maybe a little too much emphasis on team's "playing nice" and not like, being thrown into 6v6 battle royale situations with the fate of the world at stake. Also think Omega Sentinel gets torn apart by Joseph immediately but that's just me.

Well, I do think you should be looking to move Vulcan, not Cyclops. See your MAIN problem is that everyone knows Vulcans nature at the start of this. If I am you, I am BEGGING Iceman to trade me Sabretooth for Vulcan or maybe do Vulcan for Storm. There's no real shock in him being power hungry and evil. Cyclops on the other hand, being given power and told to go and deciding in a very Lawful Neutral way that that means conquest is more compelling.

But presuming you are committed to Vulcan, Beast can very much take the role you want Cyclops in. He's a drawing card, watching Hank struggle with his slow discovery of Vulcan's true intentions, ultimately culminating in a dramatic PvP fight.

But, and call me crazy, you shouldn't want you book to be building to a dramatic everyone vs Vulcan shitfest but since that's where you're taking things anyway, why not beast, the massive disparity in power is actually somewhat compelling.
