True. When we had 36.6-56k speeds my parents only used the computer for email and that's it. The computer was for us. Seriously they never used it. Once cable speeds showed up the internet still wasn't popping off with no Facebook, Youtube or Instagram bullshit to grab boomer attentions. Now my mom has an Iphone, Ipad, iMac, fucking always on the computer using facebook because all her old ass friends and family use it and the Gram. You used to be able to hide away from these old fuckers but they really are in every facet of the internet now.

Can't get away from them now.

For real though.
I miss those days.
The waters have gotten real muddied now.

That's a good way to put it. One cool thing about mid-00's internet was how you didn't feel so confined to specific websites; I mean, you still had the sites you regularly frequented, but nowadays it feels like there's a half dozen or so sites you visit as the "default" and don't venture off from as much.

Do you miss when you could post a topic about how hot an actress' or fictional character's' boobs were and every reply would agree with you and post pics because it was full of fellow horny teenagers? I remember Antagonist, Inc. on AOL, but not enough to be nostalgic about it. I spent a lot of time there, but remember other parts of AOL more vividly.

For a paid user service that would literally suspend your ability to use it if you broke their Terms of Service, there were some real fucking freaks on AOL. I remember going into some of the Christian chatrooms just to see what was going on, and it was basically everything you ever hated about religious baby boomers, plus the occasional pedophile (those were everywhere, but they were particularly bizarre in Christian chatrooms, surrounded by super conservative shouty old people).

I agree with so much posted here, especially missing talking to people online. You used to be able to have in-depth conversations. It seems like people don't write more than a sentence or two these days. The internet overall did seem more fun before social media.

I did enjoy things in the mid-2010s when people still used Facebook and blogspot and Tumblr, and Instagram was still new, but that's all changed.

One cool thing about mid-00's internet was how you didn't feel so confined to specific websites; I mean, you still had the sites you regularly frequented, but nowadays it feels like there's a half dozen or so sites you visit as the "default" and don't venture off from as much.

When I got my first computer in 2002ish the first thing I did was type random words into the URL to try to find new sites. Those were the days when I still felt excitement and anticipation.
