not that it's particularly great or anything but I gotta immerse myself, same reason to put on Snowfields when it snows, switch to Freezing Heat if I get in a sudden snowball fight, then back to the normal Snowfields once my ambushers are vanquished

I actually found this to be much more engaging.

Otherwise you'd just be pressing attack without thought in most random encounters. I like trying to predict my damage output to end battles in the fewest turns, but sometimes there are enemies you need to make sure are dead and can't risk whiffing on.

Lopen I feel like you and I are getting on the same wavelength as I grow older because the person I was thinking about maining was Seymour so really we're on a good page together here.

He's not going to weigh in here for reasons I'll explain in a minute, but I'm sure charon would be appreciative of a good Seymour run. Before last contest it was made apparent to me that charon was a little salty that Seymour's best run ever literally came from riding the coattails of his second favorite (my favorite) character. I can't blame him for that, I wouldn't want that to be MY favorite character's legacy either. That's one of the reasons I decided to lower Tidus in priority last smiffic and main Seymour once he went out, but even that run fell short of where he wanted it to go.

Between last contest and this one charon has become burnt out. Regardless of how hard he tries something just keeps cutting Seymour's runs just shy of his goals- a feeling I'm familiar with as this happened to Tidus three times in a row when all I wanted was top 5. I can't even imagine how frustrating it would be to be denied not three, but 15+ times consecutively. You guys think Shoe had it bad, but I am pretty sure charon had been and still is trying for a grand run for much longer. I think all he wants is to retire from smiffic for good, but he can't go out on a sour note like "Goal of top 5, finished 6th" or "Goal of top 10, finished 12th".

The man is so frustrated that he's literally put l3fty on ignore so he won't be tempted to vote in the smiffic until the final, which, if it displeases him enough, he'll abstain from that too. So if anyone thought charon and I were an absolute UNIT and he'd be moving on to Auron for me after having his dreams crushed for the umpteenth time in a row let me enlighten you now that it ain't gonna happen. Guff is done too. I've lowered my goal for Auron from a repeat finals appearance to 7th place, with top 5 being the best I can hope for, as a result. Seymour fans are (for the most part) a pretty sensitive bunch I guess!

I try my best to be insensitive enough to bring the average back to the norm.

I should clarify that guff only said he's done trading and might pop in and drop a casual vote only if he sees the topic. char is obviously done altogether though. I dunno, we'll see Lopen. If he really thinks anything will turn out better I could convince him to give XXII a shot. It's gotten to the point where just participating in Save Mys is draining and makes him unhappy so he might be done with smiffic period. Who knows how he'll feel after a potentially year-long break though. I can definitely agree that Save Mys are draining, but despite everything participating in them still makes me happy. For people like you and me, we'd never dream of 12th on our own because we don't care enough to make alliances and trade reliably, etc etc

When you consider Edea Lee gets like 20th minimum every year based off of literally 2 people and an alt caring about her, 12th doesn't really seem all that impressive, though

I mean I guess to be fair Nick is like a "free" trade that I don't have to make because X-Death actually has two core supporters to Garland's one so that helps (both of which care very little and don't make trades often so we can't do much)

But yeah one person alone doesn't do much, but charon has guffguy and gen to a lesser extent so yeah I just don't think the 12 is that impressive.

At some point effort can only go so far when you're maining an unpopular character.

I mean I guess I can't explain years like Fang vs. Cid P, but Squall isn't getting all these top 10s just because of my effort. Naturally popular characters get more supporters if someone is willing to be the mast. I'm sure Cloud could do it every year if someone like mwc took the stand.

But I sure as hell would not want to be the guy trying to get Irvine into top 5.

2 people only can get you to the Top 20 with main-support only, 3 people a Top 15

4 people can get you 11th, the wall to the Top 10 is doable but competitive

This varies based on the chance of getting an hour 4, but 35th is about where it usually falls.

Looking back, the elims from 36-27 (36 being the last round with more than a couple h4 saves) were Layle, Tiz, Cissnei, Gaius, Kuja, Sabin, Leon, Agnes, Cid O, Vincent. Plenty of single saver support in that group.

When Layle went it still was a 4-hour round (the ultimate one, next day was 3h), but I wasn't among the first 6 savers so I couldn't get him over the finish line =/
