I am obviously not a hockey fan, but I was wondering: Is it legal for the puck to leave the ice? Does a goal count if the puck leaves the ice anywhere along its path? What if the puck is in the air when it enters the goal?

If the puck wasn't allowed to leave the surface of the ice, then the goalie could just lay down in front of the goal and nobody could score.
(This would make for an interesting new game, the object now being to try to drag the goalie out of the way so someone else could take the shot.) --- Minutus cantorum, minutus balorum, Minutus carborata descendum pantorum. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I dont think its possible for the puck to leave the ice and then get a goal. The second the puck leaves the rink the play gets blown down and a penalty is sometimes handed out. A few examples are listed here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delay_of_game_(ice_hockey)
(That link is taking me to a Did you mean...? Just follow that link if this happens.) Alright nevermind. I was confused by the question because the puck can obviously get picked-up, yes. Leaving the ice means its left the playing area. Its almost impossible for any shot not to lift the puck off of the ice. --- "Her name is fitting." ... Copied to Clipboard!
