BTW bills like this are only supported by the unemployed or people with no real skills who work in terrible jobs with no future, so don't expect this going anywhere since most of America is enjoying the economic paradise established by Donald Trump and his predecessors.

Why stop at forcing Americans to pay for cradle to grave welfare for non Americans who illegally make it here? How is that fair to all the poor Central Americans, Somalians, etc. who dont come here illegally. Lets pay for everyone everywhere!

We spend millions on foreign aid already. Most of it goes to Central and South America. And I don't mean military deployments I mean straight up cash gifts.

Fundamentally we need to continue vetting people competitively. We cannot and should not take in everyone. We contribute a lot of resources and funds abroad to help. We could even do more despite how charitable Americans are in general.

But increasing immigration speed to the point where we effectively have open borders isn't sustainable either. We can't help everyone, sorry to say.

What a strange non-sequilar.

Because we still have family waiting to come, but these other people sneak in and ruin the process for everyone.

How does it ruin the process for everyone?

They take advantage of the system.

And how does that changes based on whether your family just arrived in the US ,or they have lived in the US before it was the US?

I dont really understand what that means, we don't have a points system like the other countries you mention. Are you saying like we should expand the h1b program or something like that?

The point is that illegal aliens don't wait, thereby cutting people in line and making the system more complex for everyone else. They also take the opportunities and benefits that should be reserved for citizens.

We need to be more strict regarding who we take in. Do they have a family who can help with supporting them if they need support? Do they have the means to work? Are they engaged or married to someone who is a citizen? What skills and work experience or education do they have? Etc.

Yeah that's a good point.

I think becoming a resident of the US should be a simpler process; that would fix a lot of these issues. It sucks for illegal immigrants who are living a legitimate life in the US, but it is simply unfair that they are here while other people aren't who also want to immigrate to the US but are following the immigration process and are stuck in that bureaucracy.

Nah, if it's too easy then anyone can come here and we run into the same problem.

It had to be selective, just like Canada and the Norwegian countries and other countries the left wants us to emulate.

If anyone can come here for any reason, with citizenship being just "Sign here please" at the border, that is still open borders.

"A simple process" is not letting anyone in for any reason.

How simple and fast do you want it? Realistically the side that is becoming too affixed to open borders is not saying "we want a faster process" in good faith.

It really means it wants what is effectively no process.

Perhaps the biggest issue with immigration right now is separation of families. Why should it take the sibling of an American citizen (F4 visa) 10-20 years to get a green card, for example? It does not take that long to check someone's credentials. Why are parents excluded from getting a family visa?

It is possible to make the immigration system better without instituting open borders.

We need to be more strict regarding who we take in.

We have an extremely strict vetting system. Unless you marry in or have parents/children, it takes well over a decade to gain citizenship, and even then it's difficult. We don't give out nearly enough green cards.

There are very few developed nations that are harder to immigrate to legally.

Illegal immigrants are not allowed to work here, so how would they have pay stubs and the credentials needed to qualify for these programs?

And even if they somehow did, they'd still be taking out more than they put in. That's what the welfare benefits indicate. Which means a redistribution of wealth from citizens to people who shouldn't even be working here.

Do Canada and the Norwegian countries take in a comparable number of people (compared to the total population in those countries) and are they stricter in terms of accepting only people with an education and good career prospects?

Generally US businesses don't pay a VAT

Would they be lacking legitimate paystubs due to their illegal immigrant status? AOC is clearly under the impression that what she is trying to do would actually result in more people accessing the programs, so I'm skeptical that you are being honest right now.

Completely irrelevant. If they don't qualify for these programs for any reason other than solely their immigration status, this bill would not change that eligibility.

Not going through this tire fire of a topic, but:
1) Undocumented workers (migrant workers, people overstayinng visas, and border hoppers) contribute to SSI, but do not benefit from it. So this is not strictly a "transfer of wealth"
2) Welfare is pretty damn hard to get
3) The positive externalities of welfare should apply to undocumented workers mostly as it does to legal citizens. Having healthy workers with healthy families is good for the country

I don't support this, I think it's not well thought out, but there are reasons to accept this.
