I actually just got a card this year because a friend told me about how he uses the library to rent movies. So I checked out my library, and yeah... pretty good collection, including new releases.

Its like Blockbuster is back, only my tax dollars already paid for it.

I mean I'm not a homeless person who needs a warm, dry place, and free access to porn, so why would I?

I check out a lot of movies and CDs from my local library. Helps fill in the gaps Netflix doesn't have and I helps me listen to a lot of CDs that I probably wouldn't buy anyways

My dad used to really push reading, he would take us there regularly

but nowadays I only go there if I need a printer.

actually relevant this past week

My ID expired recently (on top of my other problems, yay) So i had to go there to get a temporary

my library card expired, so I had to renew

I needed an ID to do that

>__>

I presented the situation to them and they actually discussed it for a couple of long minutes and they let me slide. Woo SOME good luck!

not regularly

i was all excited when i realized i could check out digital books, but it turns out the publishers are super paranoid about piracy

so they won't actually give you a file, you have to read it in your browser in some weird ultra-DRM mode. it sucks so bad

so i'll go there for physical books every once in a while, then stress out about not returning them on time for a few weeks

All the time! Keep in mind you can put stuff on hold, not only at your library but probably from other libraries in your system and have it available to be picked up at your local one.

Idk about other states, but in Illinois, a library patron in good standing with their home library can also become a "reciprocal borrower" at other out of system libraries for about a year at a time, doesn't automatically renew. You may have limited use depending on the library's reciprocal borrower rules, but it's a nice bonus if you are out and about.

That's really interesting. I've always seen overdrive and other databases where you can get them on kindle or other downloaded services. Though with very limited selection compared to physical books.

You should encourage you local library to pay for Overdrive. It's a big one for ebooks and audiobooks.

Not regularly, but I've used it a couple times in recent years, did get those online services going.

In general I like paperback books, but I often take more than two or four weeks to read them, so getting a used paperback for 3 bucks is my usual move. But libraries are cool.

Huh, I might just be an idiot.

I thought whatever they had didn't work on a paperwhite, but I think I was just wrong maybe
