I never found myself trying to repair anything, he tells Empire. If I had done VIII, I would have done things differently, just as Rian would have done things differently if he had done VII. But having worked on television series, I was accustomed to creating stories and characters that then were run by other people. If youre willing to walk away from the thing that you created and you believe its in trustworthy hands, you have to accept that some of the decisions being made are not gonna be the same that you would make. And if you come back into it, you have to honor whats been done.

Either way, I think this is just PR speak. The media are just finally starting to admit that The Last Jedi was divisive after all, Disney itself would probably never say anything to imply that TLJ wasn't a misstep.

I just get a kick out of people who use reductionist reasoning to dismiss people with different opinions and expectations than themselves.

I could be wrong, but bringing back Palpatine (unless its a misdirect. And tbf, knowing Abrams, it could be) is a massive red flag. It doesnt matter if the trailer was five seconds or fifteen minutes.

Added to that, the trilogy as a whole has been horribly mismanaged from the get-go. Theres no reason to expect that itll turn thing around except by relying on OT nostalgia, which is one of the most common ciriticisms of TFA by even only mildly critical fans.

So please stop pretending to be on some enlightened level of centrist moderation because you dont personally think its going to be bad. There are plenty of reasons to substantiate a negative opinion of the sequels whether you agree with them or not.

It's not really uncommon for large productions, no.

Especially during editing, where the director might think stuff like "this sequence would flow better if we did x instead"

depends on the re-shoots but

if the first rough cut they tested sucked hardcore and major re-shoots had to happen that's really bad signs as

- the script and scene sucked initially and didn't realize until the cut was made
- the VFX team working overtime to complete the new shots in time

who knows, it might turn out good like Rouge One which had to pretty much reshoot the entire movie again too

Honestly, I can deal with lackluster Star Wars movies. I've dealt with them for 20 years now.

The bigger slap in the face was how Disney took an already shitty EU and made an even shittier version. That and the horrible game output.

No, I agree. My issues with TLJ were solely with Finn, Poe, Rose, and the purple-haired lady. Basically everything they did was contrived or overly corny (even by Star Wars standards) or asinine in some other way.

Rey/Kylo/Luke was really quite interesting and a bold direction IMO

Agreed. I only wish they had followed through on te Rey and Kylo team up that they teased all movie,but they could go through with it in ep 9.
