I dont mean tiptoeing around the fact atheist. I mean someone who publicly and boldly declared that as their stance.

I'd say we have about a 30% chance of a female president in 2020, and a less than 1% chance of an atheist president prior to 2050

Definitely a woman before an open atheist

(Very likely weve already had privately atheist presidents, though.)

Yeah, I'm taking atheist here to mean both atheist *and* nonreligious, which are of course two different things, but it's a lot more likely than "religious adherent who openly does not believe in god" (and I think "nonreligious, but spiritual/believes in god" is significantly more likely to go over well)

Private doubt or even disbelief in the existence of god is actually pretty common among religious adherents, and it's literally impossible to tell what any given person thinks given the dire social consequences of publicly admitting this

Openly atheist christianity does actually exist but it's a niche movement

Eh, Revelation is part of the point. There's no need to be violent now, since evil will get its comeuppance in the end.

I'd generally say nonviolence and anti-war are the same thing, but I suppose you could disagree. I'm not sure there's much for pro-war stuff in the New Testament.

Now, if you're a Jew, being pro-war is totally cool, since the Old Testament's all about that. The curious thing is how so many Christians think that way!

Well, the difference is we're talking about what individuals ought to do and what the government has the authority to do. Paul in Romans says that the government has the power to "wield the sword," whether it be for capital punishment or for war. It's similar to how sometimes people use the whole "Eye for an eye" thing to discredit the Old Testament. "Eye for an eye" wasn't used to settle personal grudges. It was a legal principle for those in charge to follow when punishing those who break the law (and the basic idea is "The punishment must fit the crime").

Maybe we'll have both at the same time? An Atheist Female President. Fuck yeah!

Unfortunately, it'll be a while before we're ready for an openly atheist President. And some people still think (in large part for the same reasons! Religion!) that we shouldn't have a female President. I mean even Bernie Sanders started with that nonsense answer of "Everyone believes in God in their own ways."

But as modern morality evolves at an ever-increasing pace and science advances at an even faster one, Christianity isn't having time to catch up. So eventually (not in our lifetimes, I suspect) the religion will wane and secular-humanism will rise. And then we may finally have an Atheist President. But it'll be a very long ways off, I'm afraid.

That said, Donald Trump is definitely a Christian. Much like Joel Osteen is, and Steven Anderson, and the pastor and the members of the congregation in Oklahoma who beat a gay man trying to convert him, as well as the members of the congregation in North Carolina who beat and choked a gay man to 'beat the demons out of him'. They're just an ugly side of Christianity that is very present in the bible, but people would much rather ignore.

I wouldn't be too shocked if we have a woman within the next three presidencies. We've 100% already had atheist presidents, but if we're talking publicly, it's not going to happen until at the very least all current politicians/party decision-makers are dead.

Trump is definitely an atheist.

It's not that he's a "bad Christian", but everything about theism is antithetical to who he is. Can you imagine the guy giving any credit to a creator? lol.

Literally every time he's talked about "being a Christian", it's highly performative in a way that you can tell he doesn't even believe it.

That being said, I think we'll have a woman president before we ever even have a Top 10 CANDIDATE for President that calls themselves an Atheist.

Well, he's openly said that he doesn't think he's ever needed to ask God for forgiveness.

I guess it depends on how we're defining atheist and Christian here. Does Trump act like a Christian? Not really, most of the time. Does that mean he disavows the existence of God entirely? Not necessarily.

She would also pick off a ton of feminist support from the Democrats while all the Republicans fell in line.

It's about getting through the primaries... And a 2024 Ivanka bid after a 2 term donald is the best bet. Keeps name recognition while being a much more measured and cool feminist.
