Usually when you get the Florida man shit it's in backwater towns and not built up areas. Another reason Florida man stories are more prevalent than elsewhere is to do with how quickly and easily accessible police reports for the media. There is a massive difference between living in a large area like Tampa or Orlando and living in some small Florida town. I've lived in Orlando for 7 years now. I also frequently travel around the country for work and Orlando is a hell of a lot better than the vast majority of places I go to. That being said with Tampa it entirely depends on where in Tampa. There's nice areas of Tampa and there are very shitty areas of Tampa. Detroit is a hard pass for me.
