30 y/o Tech Sales Executive, Samuel Waisbren from Wisconsin was horrifically killed after an ELEVATOR crushed him to death!!

He was walking into the lobby of the luxury Manhattan Promenade building in the morning when the Elevator suddenly dropped and plunged towards the building's basement.

He was killed as the top of the elevator crashed down on him effectively crushing him between the wall of the shaft and the lift

One man had already walked into the lobby ahead of him but 5 others were still inside the elevator when it hurled downward. They were uninjured

He came from Milwaukee but lived in NYC for 6 years

The luxury building he lived in leased for 3600 a month

His father, Chris said his son had recently complained about elevator problems there

The Manhattan Promenade was fined nearly $1300 in May after inspectors found a safety issue on one of the elevators that was either tampered with or disabled

Charles said "My feeling about New York is you pay a bazillion dollars for rent, the least they could do is provide safety"

The devastated father told New York Daily News that it would be hard to keep on living without his son who he described as a smart and very very sensitive man...

One resident of the building said there was constant issues with the elevators and said it was "super scary" as they always jump between floors and said it was like halloween horror nights

Others are now taking the stairs as they were too traumatized over the death

FDNY Deputy Chief, Anthony Arpaia revealed the gruesome details of the death and said his body was sort of stuck between the first floor and the basement as other passengers were on that lift horrified

A security footage captured the entire horrifying accident as an employee said that Waisbren tried to put his hand out to prevent the door from closing as the elevator went down

The employee said "Like jumping out of a car if it's still moving"

There will now be an ivestigation by police as a building spokesman told Dailmal that they are aggressively going after this but said elevators are the safest form of travel in New York due to the city's stringent inspection and safety requirements

Do elevators scare you?

Fine them a third of the monthly rent from a single apartment. That'll learn 'em!

Wait, so what exactly happened? Is there an open space between the two shafts and the falling elevator from one side landed on the elevator he was in?

I know that working elevators aren't a luxury, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have them in your luxury building... ffs.

Having ridden some scary elevators over the years, but I'm still shocked that people paying that much would put up with it.

Not sure why they aren't moving out. When a building kills a tenant, residents should be freed from their lease.

while stepping out of the elevator, it moved down. he tried to climb out as it moved but failed, and got caught between the door and the inner wall of the elevator shaft.

Maybe they dont have anywhere else to go. I heard New York can be expensive and stuff. Maybe this place was somewhat cheap for the amount of room. And close enough to walk to work. Maybe the other buildings in the area are full. Could be a number of reasons. Could be something about family, or moving expenses. Or that theyll be moving in about half a year and dont want to sign another full year lease somewhere else...

Or maybe they dont know that they could break their lease over the death. Or maybe the building didnt have a death clause for their leases...

Or maybe every other building is at full capacity. Or maybe every other building is haunted. Or maybe the owners of the building promised to buy all the residents jet packs.

I instinctively always check an elevator's inspection placard when entering a new one. I know how safe they suppoesly are, but I still get slightly paranoid. It's reassuring to see it passed inspection and isn't more than at most a month or 2 overdue for a new inspection.

Well, in a cruel twist of irony...moving your shit out of a high rise building likely requires lots of use of the elevator, because carrying all that heavy stuff down tons of stairs just isn't feasible.

So...yeah....

Not unlike the golfer who had the hole open up under him.

When you see the size of the hole youll understand. (He didnt die, but it was attempted.)

No they dont scare me but I usually take stairs cause its quicker unless its a lot of floors I need to go up or down. Going up is harder so it takes less floors to deter me from the stairs but going down is fast and easy enough I can almost always beat the elevator.

I remember one elevator that slightly bugged me though as it didnt appear to have solid walls looked and felt like a canvas curtain. Im hoping there was walls behind that and the curtain was just hiding them being old and ugly or something. I hated that one for how slow it was though. There was only 2 floors but it still seemed to take forever to go up or down

They live in a luxury high rise. They can afford to move.

So he gets folded in. He does get decapitated but his head gets tucked in and dragged down. So you dont see it.

Nevertheless, you still cringe while watching. The reaction of the guy that came off the elevator first captures the sentiment.
