Poll of the Day > I was just fired from my job of 32 years.

I do need to be clear that this was a part time (24hrs) Job that I did because of my desire to help kids, since I was treated so incredibly well after getting out of the USSR. This wasn't my main source of income, so Don't worry about me.
I started working part-time in February 1987 as a janitor/maintenance at a residence for severely mentally handicapped children. (non-violent, just kids unable to function without support.) My reason for being so loyal to the residence is because in the 60s-1985, it took in legal immigrants/refugees from communist countries. I learned english there, I met my Wife there in 81, and I even bought my first car from the director there. It transitioned to special needs residence when I started working there, and even has a section for blind children that I'm responsible for keeping clean. Well, I cleaned the restrooms this morning, and I unfortunately left a plunger in one of the toilets. I Don't even know why I'm posting this, I've never been particularly active on this site. Just had to get this out i guess. Thanks for reading.

Maybe. Though, after 32 years, a little break might be warranted. Like if it was his first day, that would be different from someone who worked there 32 years. Unless there is suppose to be more to this story. Thats the only way I can think of leaving a plunger in the toilet to lead to a firing...

Was thinking they were already looking for some excuse to get rid of him and just used this incident, either that or maybe a kid hurt themselves on the handle.

Thanks for the vote of confidence guys, I Don't want to go into details, but there are especially good reasons not to leave a plunger in blind childrens toilets.

I was wondering both of these. Since the kids were blind, one could have gotten hurt.

Or they were looking for a reason. We have people like that where I work. There are some people the higher ups want gone. But they need a reason to get rid of them. The problem is once they start firing, they get rid of too many people without a safety net or anything. And then people also quit. And then theyre flailing, trying to make sure we have enough people to still operate...

I know that joke (Pryor? that era anyway), but thats not what my post was. I really do feel awful about it. I'm not even 100% sure if the "Joke" Is what happened. All I know is that a Child in my indirect care was taken to the hospital due to an error I made. Its 100% my fault that it happened. All I know for sure is that I'm going to have a few drinks tonight.

This was good until TC came back an tried to keep it going. If you think too much about the logistics of how the outcome of the joke would have to happen you'd realize it's bordering on impossible.

Next time just let the set up handle itself and quit while you're ahead.

Don't worry I'm sure the kids can lift their butts up high enough to get on the handle (Plunger handles really aren't that short)
