The two staff members who were guarding the jail unit where Jeffrey Epstein apparently killed himself fell asleep and failed to check on him for about three hours, then falsified records to cover up their mistake, according to several law enforcement and prison officials with knowledge of the matter.

Those disclosures came on Tuesday as the two employees were placed on administrative leave and the warden of the jail, the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, was temporarily reassigned, pending the outcome of the investigation into Mr. Epsteins death, the Justice Department announced.

The two staff members in the special housing unit where Mr. Epstein was held 9 South falsely recorded in a log that they had checked on the financier, who was facing sex trafficking charges, every 30 minutes, as was required, the officials said. Such false entries in an official log could constitute a federal crime.

In fact, the two people guarding Mr. Epstein had been asleep for some or all of the three hours, three of the officials said.

Honestly at my old job I saw cops and CO's fall asleep on their posts guarding an inmate, most were on mandatory OT and many were just burnt out. It's criminal how short staffed some of the prisons are, which why performances are shit

This is my take too. Some of the terribly paid and underappreciated employees did a shitty job and someone died. It happens when you have too many people in prison and not enough support. It's not a problem when it's a random guy there on a drug charge so no one cares until now.

They then threw him rope then showed him pictures of his family and loved ones and told him about how bad they would be tortured before they did the same to him. Unless he killed him self on spot.

They were drugged to fall asleep, but didn't realise even after that they were drugged and started lying to cover for themselves, making the killer's job easier.

Don't get me wrong. He is scum and doesn't deserve an ounce of pity, but he was still "useful".

They wouldnt need to do that. They would just need for these guards to never really materialize in any meaningful way. If any journalist or anyone else starts digging too much, just, you know, remotely hack their car while theyre driving. Standard procedure.

Epstein may be dead, but we know there's one other person deeply involved in his operation and that's Ghislaine Maxwell. They should be looking for her.
