Board 8 > Anyone here play EDH/Commander? (Commander 2019 hype topic?)

I've played Magic on and off for a long time (never competitively), but I recently found a casual commander group that I've been playing with.

I know there are at least a few other Magic players on the board, and Commander 2019 spoilers are supposed to start at GenCon this weekend.

I own 2 unopened commander 2013 decks.
I also made 1 commander deck in 2011

I wish I played more magic...its really fun.

Supposedly the themes are based around 4 mechanics: Flashback, Madness, Populate, and Morph

Yeah, I think that's the one I'm most interested in. Not sure what they will do with Flashback since it feels like there's already enough support for that

I haven't played Magic since interrupts and mana burn were a thing.
I always made decks with 20 creatures, 20 spells and 20 lands like was recommended.
I was in a sealed deck thing and lost every game except to an 8 year old kid (who was the son of the guy running the tourney)

I actually understood banding, regeneration and protection.

I actually liked the Homelands set since it was the first attempt at flavor and it was meant to slow the game down because stuff from alpha was broken. Turns out I'm the only one who hates broken stuff.

Wrote a story that had a time traveler from 2015 who played magic and wondered why all the cards from 1997 were so powerful. (The specific card was Serra Angel, she isn't even good today. )

The only word I recognize is Sliver. I don't know what the abilities even are anymore. Oh, and I never got why landwalk was so hated either. (Especially Islandwalk, since I had a card that tapped to turn a target land into an island for a turn)

Sorry about the rant, I was just watching youtube videos and the kept recommending me MTG ones so I watched a few which got me thinking. Probably were recommended because of this event.

I've never played commander, but the idea seems neat.

I only got into magic last year, so standard/ drafting (mostly in mtga, a few times in person) is all I know.

I like the idea of commander deck construction but I loathe that the standard format for it is big multiplayer games.

I like playing Commander but I do not have the time to make my own decks, so I'm excited for spoilers of the new pre built ones.

French EDH is a different format. EDH is fine as long as you play with a group that doesn't fall into the trap of making it an arms race in terms of upgrading decks. My group recently did a $25 deck challenge, and it's been a lot of fun.

Tuck was terrible and shut down decks that relied on their commander. There was no reason to have that in the format.

I enjoy the wide range of viable decks in Commander. I don't like as much how the default seems to be 2-3 hours of accumulating board presence and card advantage until someone sticks a game winning spell. That's what the RC tries to push as the right way to play, and I have grown unhappy with it myself.

We got all the box legends. Naya populate, Sultai morph, Jeskai flashback... Rakdos madness. Welp, not interested anymore.

Most of the sultai deck has been spoiled. The ape snake and fight dino look fun.

I like the look of Grismold, there's some cool potential there. Obvious synergy with Night of Soul's Betrayal or the like.

The Jeskai deck seems pretty bad overall. I have no idea why they chose some of these reprints (Zeltalpa?) and even some of the reprints that make sense thematically are hilariously bad (Fervent Denial...)

A new goad commander, Naya polymorph, and attacking on other player's turns. These all seem pretty neat.

I preordered all four for $104 before the spoilers came out...decks ended up being pretty decent.

Will probably end up adding Kadena to my commander decks and take the remaining decks apart to add cards to other decks.
