i visited for a long weekend (4 days total) in the mid 00s. i enjoyed the experience. nothing really stood out as a negative. we did get off the subway at the wrong stop once and ended up way uptown in spanish harlem and walking around was a bit .... weird, but nothing came of it.

Ive only ever been once for a work conference. It was fine as far as work conferences go. I liked DC more, but I've been far more times.

nyc is a lot more fun if you have a gameplan rather than trying to see the major tourist attractions. i can see how manhattan would be very overwhelming to ppl not used to it

I visited for about 4 days a few months ago and had the time of my life. We saw some major attractions but spent most of the time going to local food joints and stuff that we found online. I was surprised at how easy everything was from the subway, to how nice most people were. I had always expected people to be more asshole ish but maybe they just seemed nice because everyone is a shit head in Baltimore.

(Edit): The only real complaint I had was that one night there was a homeless man in a wheelchair just riding the subway all day and you could smell him sitting in his own shit from the next car over

I've done a handful of day trips when I lived over there that were nice. The trick to me has always been get out of there before the trains stop running.

Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, I love them all. So many people, anyone can find a tribe here. I like walking places and in NYC that's actually possible, and sometimes I'll see something interesting. I like that public transportation is a thing, because I dislike driving. There's so much culture in New York City.

I went over a decade ago and it was a pretty good time. Traffic was shite but I wasn't driving so it didn't matter to me. I saw some shows, ate some good food, and enjoyed myself plenty. If you think NYC is trashy you should visit the downtown areas of some rust belt cities like Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
