If I were making an FF8 list it would probably have Fisherman's Horizon, but I can also see an argument for not including it. Compression of Time does not seem good from a strategic perspective though.

hoooo boy I was actually in my mind thinking of a potential FF8 list since it's the only FF I really am invested in, and thought this same thing. I like the list overall a lot, and this is coming from a non-fan of Liberi Fatali, although Compression of Time could probably be something else like Shuffle or Boogie or either of the HMs (or Fisherman's Horizon I'd be down for that too!)

History of the Moon not being in the IN list is kind of a dealbreaker for me though, maybe this is bias of me to say but it's the strongest song in the game in my eyes, even more than Reach for the Moon. Both Voyages is a little bit excessive, but 1969 is definitely a good choice to keep in a potential IN list.

I posted this list in Discord that I had thought about and actually think would be really strong, but is potentially not-a-priority for myself to nominate.

I'd probably try to fit in You'll See Out the End of the Tales and Valley of the Kings. At the End of Disaster would be a good choice too IMO. I'm also partial to Lacrimosa of DANA though it's a much different tone/sound.

Yeah, it would depend on the game. "Early access" implies that the game is mostly in its complete state, and demos are usually not complete at all. If Deltarune did not have an official soundtrack out, considering its official status as a "demo", I would probably still have allowed it.

Ok. Looking at it a bit more, I have deemed the game is not qualified.

I could use some help for Terraria Calamity. I have essentially zero idea how strong individual songs in the soundtrack are because I'm so enamored with the whole thing. Initial thoughts on viable songs in some extraordinarily rough strong-to-weak order:

Regarding Ys VIII, You'll See Out the End of the Tales would definitely be a good choice to include, but other than that over Pan-Gaia I think it's really solid. Tales taking 1 and bumping Next Step to 2 would make sense to me. Wet Footprint a really good alternate choice too.

For Calamity, that... seems like a good order to me? I'd think Servants instead of Universe for top, but all those big "bombastic" songs like Raw Unfiltered works fine. (and crab)

Other than the kind of throw away idea earlier, here's one list I've thought about quite a bit and think I could get a lot of feedback on it...

Keeping it area/event song, battle song, boss song in each area made sense to me, but which of Qualia/Aruella/I (sun)/I (Cloud)/"You're not a heroine, it's me" to pick was kind of up in the air for me, as was which ALL PHASE should go into the Alternate. I considered keeping the alternate to only -ZERO-, having only -Micheal- in spot 3, putting binGe 1 or 3 in spot 2, no idea what to actually do and I know a few people here could have big input on this.

That said, given my incessant attempts over the last year-ish to get the board on... board... with Qualia have been met with deafening silence I am not totally sure it's the optimal choice. I am 200% in support of it though so you have my axe.

A lot of my advice probably hinges on how much you want to keep that kind of format division, because if you do, a lot of that feels locked in. I mean, battle songs would be, and TIGAR/Sayonara would be tough to argue against. I'd be up for the debate on it though.

Event/Area would be the the place the wildcard and that's all probably the area most people whose exposure to the OST has primarily been VGMC would be at a heavy disadvantage. Albiero Lake made a VGMC a few years back but I think that was it.

I honestly don't think you could go wrong with any of the battle/boss themes, and very arguably the "optimal" list is literally both normal battle themes + all 5 boss themes. That said, as someone who really likes the OST all-around I'll put that to the side for now.

Starting with the boss themes... if you had to go for 2, I think I'd go TIGAR and then roll the dice on Toshitake/Shinbu (which is the right translation help me dowolf.) Sayonara and DNF are definitely the safer picks there because they're both proven, but I think it could do quite well for itself. binGe is definitely the risky one lol where if you wanted to leave one out out of fear it could go sideways it'd be the one.

Qualia is 100% my top draft pick for area/event, but my next selection would probably be If I Were You. It's just so calming. Unfortunately that might not be the best in a contest setting. You're not the heroine, it's me is probably the safest pick in this category... I think. Talking Until Sunset Under that Same Fateful Sky reminds me of some calmer VN songs that have done all right for themselves in past VGMCs as another idea.

So two stupid questions.
1) Does this mean someone could nominate parts 1 and 4 of Dancing Mad separately as two of the tracks for FF6?
2) One of the games I nominated before, Sol Survivor, has a track that, oddly enough, is split on the soundtrack into a part 1, and a parts 2&3. Is nominating just parts 2&3 okay?

Yes and yes!

Also Necrodancer list looks solid as hell; I could throw strong desire to see Momentum Mori in there at ya but Stone Cold and Mausoleum Mash are good choices, and of course nothing needs to be said about Six Feet Thunder and Wight to Remain. So I'd likely support anything that looks even remotely similar.

hehe I remembered somehow that someone (I had guessed you but wasn't sure honestly) nom'd Qualia for VGMC, and while I didn't support it back then because it's admittedly low on my BR power ranking, it has incredible use in something like this to showcase the whole soundtrack. But yeah I definitely considered OVERDOSE+BREAKTHROUGH+Bosses*5 but I think having five eight minute long pieces would tire people out as well. I did forget to mention If I Were You cause that was on the possibility list, as was The Unbroken Part of Me. Also somehow completely forgot the most obvious song to think about.... BLUE REFLECTION lmao. That might actually be a good choice to use for the alternate as well. Shinbu is definitely a possibility, but I find it really too similar to (and weaker than) TIGAR to use alongside or instead of it unless going for the ALL ALL PHASE list.

All the levels in Hollow Knight feature multiple versions of the area theme which will play depending on what exactly the player is doing. For example NFUN mentioned the "action" version which basically plays during mini-boss fights and things like that.

However the track "Greenpath" which appears on the game's OST is actually a combination of two of the variants of the Greenpath level theme (normal and action). It transitions from one to the other at about the halfway point. Is the OST version of Greenpath still eligible?

I'm planning on nominating Rewrite unless someone else really wants to nominate their set list or whatever. Not sure about the order they should go in, but I was thinking that my list would be Scene Shifts There, Scattered Flowers, Soft Windflower, Phobia, Deep Forest, and Philosophyz. Unsure about the alt song, but I'm open to a lot of songs to fill that slot.

Note that this is mostly based off of songs that I like the most from the soundtrack and not so much songs that I think will do well, mainly because I'm not really sure what would do well and what wouldn't. I did look at the past VGMC results for Rewrite songs and Scene Shifts There, Soft Windflower, and Scattered Flowers have all been in VGMC in the past but haven't shown particularly good performance. Scattered Flowers has gone to round 2 at its best, but the other 2 songs have never gotten past round 1. Deep Forest, though, was in the side bracket in VGMC12 and made it all the way to round 5 there, so I imagine there's some good potential with that song. Since half of my songs in my list are songs that haven't done too well in VGMC in the past, I definitely would appreciate some input on my picks and potential alt songs as well as whether other songs might potentially do better and thus be better picks for my list over other songs.

Other games that have been floating around in my head as potential nominations are Little Busters and Caligula Overdose. Haven't come up with a definitive list yet for either of those, though. This actually brings me to a question about eligibility for Caligula Overdose songs. From my understanding, Overdose is just a remake of the original Caligula game but with some new songs included among other things (someone correct me if I'm wrong about the music). If that's correct, would music that debuted in the original game be eligible to be listed under Overdose, or would it have to be only music that came with the remake?

That's pretty similar to what I was thinking of. I was thinking maybe Ring Ring Ring, Melancholy of a Noisy Girl, Little Busters, Clear Weather After the Rain (instrumental), Alicemagic, and maybe Lamplight for the sixth slot, I don't know. I really want to include Born Into This World in the list, but I have a feeling that it wouldn't do too well. Maybe it could be the alt song.

Edit: Oh man now I'm thinking Song for Friends would be nice too. Decisions, decisions.

For Rewrite, I like Raised Bed a lot too and that's definitely an honorable mention. Guess I could use that for the alt song for Rewrite.

I'm primarily familiar with the Ostinato Musician songs (which include those 4) but I'll give a shoutout to the ThornRemix versions of those that have them. Love Scope and Onboro have them though I think I prefer Onboro's standard version. Love Scope is more of a tossup. Tenshi no Uta and Originality Incident have neat ThornRemix versions though.

sin does not have a remix like that but I like it anyway. I'm also okay with Cradle though I probably would have the 4 originally mentioned plus the 3 I named here ahead of it. Definitely wouldn't object to Cradle though, it's cool.

Ugh, just realized I have these in inverted order. Petition to list from strongest to weakest instead of the other way around, and you can just say 4-6 is the lesser trio and 1-3 is the greater trio?

Now that I've had the chance to actually contribute to a set, I can definitely say I agree that it feels more natural to list nominations from strongest to weakest. When you're coming up with the list, you're obviously choosing the best songs first, and it feels right to have 1 be the best in a numbered list of 1-2-3-4-5-6-Alt. Plus it works out for drawing supports during nominations since people probably skim the first few songs of each lineup.

Now, this wouldn't have to affect the bracket ordering; you can just have 4-6 in the first rounds and 1-3 in later rounds, so the weak songs still come first. I'd be fine with ordering my lineup to create this increasing progression provided that the general public does the same...if there were enough people trying to game this and make their strong songs come first, I'd be tempted to do the same so I don't just lose from two weak vs. strong matchups at the beginning. My hope is that everyone can agree to follow some pre-established ordering (whether it's 1-6 = weakest-strongest or strongest-weakest) so everything's on a level playing field.

I feel like things wouldn't come to the gamesmanship that appeared in BOST1 here and we could collectively come to an agreement on an order like that. You could have it mandated by the host with the understanding that people can and will disagree on strength but I don't know if any host would really want to litigate it if someone tried to push it like that.

Though again, I really don't think that'd be an issue with the B8VGM community these days and we could just come up with a standardize way of doing it. (It would still be helpful to have it like... bolded... or something in the first post(s) of the actual nominations though just as a reminder.) I've mostly been listing strongest-to-weakest in my posts so far even though I think I only actually numbered them once. >_>

I haven't listened to the entire Cold Steel OST but I really like Tie a Link of ARCUS and Don't Be Defeated By a Friend, so I'd be very happy to see those in the Cold Steel nomination.

Yeah, I can definitely implement that. Obviously I can't change it here, but the master post for nominations and voting is edited so that it'll be 1 is "strongest" and 6 "weakest" and the change will be bolded to alert people of this change.

I have a few more in mind but they're more niche (All Our Asias, GiFTPiA), so I'm not sure if people want to take a look at them.

Top 3 for Cuphead is exactly what I would have, so can't complain there! It's hard to say what kind of lineup would give this OST the best shot at the contest, but one of the factors should probably be variety so it doesn't get the "These songs all sound the same" treatment. Introduction seems better than King's Court here because the drums-only sections are a lot shorter and less awkward. I think Murine Corps is a fun track to listen to...I also like Die House for bringing something "different". And, Honeycomb can probably be swapped out with something that does more stuff.

My only contributions are Carnival Kerfuffle and Inkwell Isle 3. Would bring some more swing and saxophone GROWL.

How will you count things for Beatmania? Like, IIDX 25 has a bunch of DLC tracks for previous games included in it and on its OST. Could those count for 25?
