Literally backwards pieces of shit.

They keep raising taxes and giving away free shit, but are too stupid to legalize a benefit to the state and its people.

Yep, I've seen your posts before. This shit will never get legalized. It makes me jealous that places so close like MA have it.

Where to begin?

A few things worth noting:
- there's an unspoken agreement to give upstate disproportionate power in the Senate, which naturally benefits Republicans
- up until last year's primaries, a breakaway group of Democrats caucused with Republicans to give the GOP a majority in the senate.
- Governor Cuomo, like his father before him, reportedly prefers such a setup because it saves him the trouble of having to veto progressive legislation.

Using the county map seems deeply misleading, given that roughly half the population lives in NYC and legislative maps are drawn to account for that fact.

Yes, a lot of the population lives in NYC, but if your job is to represent the entire state, and the vast majority of the state is red, you're going to see politicians do things that appeal to people other than those living in a 300 square mile section of a 54,000 square mile state. Balrog wanted to know why NY was less progressive than other states. I'm pointing out that outside of NYC it's not a progressive state.

The problem is they tied it to the budget.

The break down is a bit much, but that is where it all went wrong.
Still a stupid move.

NYS's budget is always a shit show.

Ya I was going to say, even your biggest redneck in upstate is nothing compared to other parts of the country. To some degree it has to do with the aging population and the number of jobs that come from 'correctional' facilities, and general law enforcement. After that it's a ton of people who frame houses..etc..

The "NYC metro area" literally includes NJ and PA residents. New York City has a population of about 8 million. The state itself only has 19.5 million people. So are you just completely full of shit or did you just not know what "metro area" meant?

your job as a state representative or state senator is more to represent your district than your entire state imo

Anyway, I'd say that the entire west coast does a better job at progressive state politics than new york does, even though NYC itself is very progressive in many ways. Yet if you look at Oregon or Washington 2016 presidential election results, they are as red as this map of new york is

My bad but you're acting like NYC isn't by far the bulk of the state

you said the vast majority of the state is red

which is factually wrong
