The end of civilization as we know it won't necessarily mean the end of humanity as a species.

where climate change is the most likely eventual cause of the end of civilization, we're more likely to war each other... probably sometime after the climate tipping point, where the nations will all blame each other for dooming us.

That's a good point - "Human" civilization might end when humans gradually evolve into something else

I think climate change will cause a lot of deaths in countries too poor to adapt which will limit humanity's footprint and slow down the destruction enough to be somewhat helpful, plus ingenuity will find a solution. There's a place that already has a reclamation facility that works, so if they build lots of them, there you go...

I think AI will be the end of us. Not because it's evil, but because we are and will pick a fight with it and lose.

This if we manage to find a way to survive the harsher environment the world will become before then. I dont see us getting the ability to travel to other planets that can sustain life outside our solar system. Youd have to have some power source/fuel that could go that far then youd need enough food and what not to survive the trip.

we could do Generation Ships someday

thats where the ship moves slow, so the people who get on the ship are not the people landing at the end of the trip. many generations will be born live and die on the ship before it ends the trip. think like that movie Passengers except they don't go to sleep.

Still has the problem of power source/fuel to travel the distance. Ship would have to be massive in order to have an area to produce food enough for everyone and other necessities which woukd then make the ship require even more power. If we come up with a way to generate power on the ship itself though... Maybe

You could probably find a way to make more power. But even then, you might not need much. For the ship to move, one you start, youre good. It will just keep going. Not fast. But there would be no need to. For the power inside, you could do many different things to generate the power inside. And you could make it so you dont even need much...

It was a normal Thursday in when it happened. Those running pizza stores, had some forewarning and knew there would be problems, but nobody expected it to escalate so quickly. Pizza stores around the world had been getting less and less supplies, there was a shortage of flour, so all bread products had increased in price, but cheese was now extremely expensive and hard to get.

But on that Thursday, the carefully rationed supplies, ran out, and almost every pizza store in the world closed its doors early.

It wasn't so bad for the first few hours, pizza costs had skyrocketed so most people didn't have pizza everyday anymore. There was no frozen pizzas at this point, the ingrediants were too valuable to waste on such low quality products, so the lines at pizza places were long, the prices high and while love of pizza made it worth all that, it softened the blow if you couldn't get it.

But by around dinner time, unrest was starting. The wealthy and rich who hired someone to stand in those lines, and didn't care if pizza was 3x as much as it used to be, went without. Only those who stockpiled their own ingredients and pizza chefs could eat what they wanted.

And that is where the real problem started. Most people knew the very rich got anything they wanted, that rules didn't apply to them and while they were not ok with it, it was part of life. It might have even been accepted, but...the wealthy and those rich who did not think ahead, started to complain that night, about those who did, and were not sharing.

It spread like wildfire. You would imagine that the lack of pizza at most would cause a drop in the stock market, or some form of protests about stockpiling flour etc, but no, it was the spark that ignited a deep anger in people that had been building for awhile.

By 10 pm in the US, there were people rioting in the streets, breaking windows, smashing cars and lighting buildings on fire. "Pizza for EVERYONE" they yelled. Larger and larger crowds gathered together and then.....they stormed towards the most rich neighborhoods, the areas where those with the most lived and started looting the estates. By midnight most of the largest estates in the US where in ruins....the owners dead, and the pizza ingredients that had been stockpiled were ruined/wasted or absconded with.

A national pizza emergency was declared and everyone was ordered to remain indoors, violators would be arrested. The only problem was, the army, the police, the very people who were supposed to control the chaos, WANTED PIZZA TO! Within 24 hours it was utter chaos in America. The news alone caused the world to collapse, wars started, weapons were released, it was apocalyptic.

It hadn't gone too far yet, humanity could still recover, but then it was leaked that the flour shortage.....had been created on purpose for political gain. One of the two primary parties in the US instigated the shortage to make the other parties presidential term seem worse. Any semblance of order, or government at that point was gone, even the secret bases and underground compounds were left unmanned and deserted. The world devolved into absolute chaos and the weapons that were available....were too powerful. With any semblance of order humanity could survive almost anything....nuclear war, ice ages, huge meteors, almost anything. Humanity though, could not survive the loss of pizza. The pizzapocalypse had come.
