The real Home Alone 3 is Saw.

I'd have to agree if you was talking about Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, but this film is iconic and classic. You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are turning your nose to a great film that went down as one of the greatest pop culture hits of the 90's.

I suppose you hate Waterboy, Billy Madison, Black Sheep, Harry and the Hendersons and many more movies as well, huh?

Billy Madison and Harry and the Henderson's are great and a lot of fun, haven't seen the other 2.

Home Alone isn't as good as those 2 by any stretch imo.

I can get to the bottom of this.

What is your opinion of The Three Stooges and which skit do you find the most entertaining?

If the answer is "you don't, and none" than I don't have much else to say to you about this.

If you like stooges than I cant see how you don't like home alone. Not to mention the feeling of empowerment that movie left on a 8 year old. Imagine being home alone and taking care of yourself, not only better than the adults ever could, but practically calling all your own shots for like a week.

Also, what are you thoughts on Hook? Because I find that movie to be remarkably similiar to Home Alone.

Never really sat down and watched The 3 Stooges, but what I have seen wasn't a huge fan.

As I said earlier, not a big fan of slapstick.

I'm more of a Marx Brothers kind of guy.

Also Hook is a lot of fun. It has its flaws, but it is a very enjoyable movie, although Robin Williams and to a lesser extent Dustin Hoffman REALLY carry that movie.

To clarify a bit, yes, Marx Brothers do have a lot of slapstick as well, but for me, slapstick in only funny when it's the punchline to something else, which is more the case with stuff like Marx Brothers than it is with stuff like Home Alone. If there's other set up and the slap stick is used as some sort of irony or resolution to that set up, it can be funny to me.

Slapstick where it's just "oh, ha ha, he got hit in the head" isn't funny to me, at all. And that's a huge chunk of the humor in Home Alone.

Admittedly I'm not the biggest fan of slapstick comedy, but I just don't find it funny or endearing. Kevin is annoying, all of his family is annoying, the filmmaking and cinematography itself is meh, and I just didn't find it very entertaining.

The burglars are ok, but they couldn't save the film for me.

The one funny bit IMO is Keven asking if his toothbrush is approved by the American Dental Association. Other than that, the movie didn't get any laughs from me.

Then what isnt mediocre to you?

Home Alone 1 was the best one. The second was good but was a repeat of the story from the first, only with different locations. Then the series committed suicide with its sequels.

Are you asking what comedy movies aren't mediocre? Cause there's tons, Home Alone just isn't one of them.

Spaceballs, Airplane!, Blazing Saddles, Duck Soup,Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, those are all great comedies.

That's honestly perfectly valid. Some films are a product of the times, and those outside of that set age demographic at that set time wont appreciate the film the same way that those who were in that demographic did.

I would argue though, that if you have to have seen a film at a certain time period/at a certain age to appreciate it AT ALL, that inherently makes it less good than other films without that limitation.

Definitely. It's a film that takes me back to my childhood. I'm not gonna argue it's a rock solid film for sure.

Its a classic 90s comedy.

Go watch one of the many clones trying to cash in on its success, including its own sequels, if you want to see what an actually bad Home Alone looks like.

Again, its sequels and rip offs are the ones that should be referred to as being mediocre. Home Alone comes from a time where its quality was actually genuinely good. People who do enjoy it arent likely judging against modern day movies. You have to judge it as a early 90s movie.

I don't know if I agree with that tbh. If a movie is a truly good movie, it stays a truly good movie. There's movies from the 50s and 60s that are some of my favorite movies ever made.

A better argument would be that maybe it's a good slapstick movie, which is completely possible, but as I don't like slapstick as a genre, the whole genre feels mediocre to me, with only a handful of exceptions.

And even if we go the "good for its time" route of thinking, I still don't really see it. I watched the original Halloween for the first time recently, and I felt it was a little lackluster, but I also recognized that the reason I felt it was luckluster was because I've seen so many modern horror movies that pull directly from Halloween, so Halloween doesn't feel new and revolutionary anymore, when at the time it very much was so.

I don't really watch modern slapstick movies (can't even think of any off the top of my head), so the reason I don't enjoy it isn't because I've seen it done before due to other movies in the genre being heavily inspired by it. I don't enjoy it cause I just don't think it's a good movie.

That entire family are not good people.

It blows my mind that in literal 2018 not only can people still not recognize a maturation story when they see it but actually consider the first part of said maturation story a major flaw.

I've literally heard people complain that The Lion King was an awful movie because little Simba whines a lot.
