I've got to disagree.

just from this year, I prefer A Quiet Place and Upgrade.

and some horror movies that I prefer from the 2010s:

Get Out
Kill List
The Killing of Sacred Deer
The Witch

and Black Swan, if it counts.

Upgrade is definitely not a horror movie. And damn, I almost forgot about Get Out. Out of those that would probably be the only one I'd put over it.

All the movies listed ITT was horrible and gimmicky except for get out, which was meh.
Halloween wasn't even mentioned, although it sucked too. Refer back to the Evil Dead remake or the cabin in the woods for good horror films.

It's top 5 for this decade but the Witch still takes number 1.

I really liked the Witch but it's not quite in my top 5. There are way too many people who hate on that movie.

^What's you list? I couldn't think of 20 relatively good horror movies in the last 5 years, let alone ones better than Hereditary.

tbh, I only listed it because when I was looking up recent horror movies to refresh my memory, it came up

Get Out

I liked that movie a lot, but does it count as horror? It felt like suspense to me and it was predictable that the protagonist wins at the end by killing all the psycho family members. Plus, it ends on a comedic note.

If they kept the alternate ending, I think it would help the argument of it being horror.

Edit: Heriditarys scene at the end with the daughters decomposed head, the headless mother and headless grandmother was fucked up, in the best sense of the word for horror. If nothing else, I did not see any other movies that were overall as disturbing.

If you can't think of 20 good horror movies from the last 5 years you obviously don't watch many horror movies.

Nah. Ever since the spooky ghosty jump scare Blumhouse movies took over the genre it's been pretty shit. Something good slips in now and again but the majority of horror for the past ten years, certainly in the mainstream, has been steaming garbage. I could probably think of 20 that I enjoyed over the last decade but it would be getting pretty thin towards the end.

I know im probably alone here, but i think Halloween 2018 was the best horror movie this year. It had everything i wanted it to have in it and more. And that ending was one of the most satisfying ever.
