Given their previous disagreements, I'm honestly surprised it took this long. I can completely understand the move, given that Trump is making a pretty significant foreign policy decision that runs contrary to Mattis's opinions.

Personally, I've wanted the US out of Syria for ages. All we've done is contribute to a refugee crisis that's swamped Europe.

Getting out of Syria is a good idea. Doing it without communicating through proper channels and taking appropriate responsibilities for the logistics of removing troops is a recipe for disaster.

Great. Now remove the rest of the troops and don't add more again later.

MSNBC is freaking out, CNN is freaking out, and even Fox has turned on him here. All three of them are blatantly pro-war.

Mattis was the one move that Trump has made that I was completely 100% behind. Sad to see him go.

So is Trump, otherwise he would be getting our troops out of Yemen where the real war is going on.

With the US gone, the Russian-backed Assad government *should* be able to squash resistance and prevent a vacuum from forming.

Because the war in Syria isn't real? >_>

The US is backing Saudi Arabia, currently committing genocide while at war with Yemen. Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria are the countries with troop focus.

Syria is also our most bombed country.

Frankly, I don't care if it's Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump doing it, I'm not throwing a fit because he doesn't have a D on his head. Pretty much all of these "non-partisan" complaints are coming from outlets and politicians funded by military contractors. I hope we see more of it.

I worry that this is a sign that Trump is going to start a new war soon. I got the impression that Mattis was never going to let Trump do anything incredibly stupid.

Welp, I'm legit worried. He was the last stable person capable of keeping Trump in check. We're about the head into a year where Trump will be under investigation 24/7, and there will be no adults to control him.

Buckle up.

Putting them to work on the wall would be less damaging to the world than keeping them in Syria.

They won't have time protecting us with the thousands of other troops already there from caravans full of rapists and murderers and ISIS coming here to steal our jobs while being on welfare.
