Call in to CBC radio all day and get them to play 'Baby It's Cold Outside' over and over until midnight!" Shatner wrote.

The former "T.J. Hooker" lead continued to engage with fans on the issue, explaining that he's worried about the "myopic glasses" that the classic song is being viewed through in 2018.

It's not rapey. At all. You'd have to have a stunted ability to detect social cues to think so.

My understanding that it's not so much a ban, it's just a radio station that removed it from their playlist. I'm sure there are plenty of other stations that still play it, and some that will play it more than usual

Things like this are why these things blow up. The onus is always on the non-offended to change, give up, or go through extra trouble for the benefit of the offended. The onus is never on the offended to change the damn radio station themselves. People get tired of having to change their lives, thoughts, and enjoyments because a minority, one that may just be looking for things to be upset about, say 2 words: that's offensive.

no, the reason this blew up is because we live in a world where everyone enjoys having something new to outrage over
most people do not live in the areas the radio station that decided not to play it is in. most people who are complaining about this have access to spotify, youtube, pandora, itunes, etc. where it's still available in multiple formats
it's just the progression of clickbait

The problem is "information age" is misleading as not all information represents facts.

If you ask 100 people a simple math question, say what's 3x5, a couple will get it wrong. Now if all those people can publish their dumbass answers as well as the right one, suddenly the internet has several answers.

Unfair comparison. Even proponents of that wouldn't argue it isn't about race. Shit like this continues because people stick their fingers in their ears when someone says "original context says you're wrong and being oversensitive about it".

And for the record, I'm over 40, so I remember a time when "that's offensive" killed a lot of LGBT inclusion and representation in media when it was offending "good Christians", and it pissed me off then. If I was older I'd probably remember single mothers, interracial relationships and more being suppressed for being "offensive" to the ruling power. I hate moral busybodies trying to control the populace through media. That doesn't stop for me because the moral busybodies have changed, while others seem to be fine, so long as they agree with the side doing the controlling.

I don't know. Think about lyrics like

Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you.
