its like someone dropped a anti-creativity nuke on the 2010s. you really have to dig to find good music, movies, tv shows. i mean dont get me wrong there has always been horrible entertainment in every era but it used to be avoidable, its everywhere now.

It doesn't look terrible, but I still don't see any reason for me to watch it. I must have watched the original hundreds of times as a kid, and it's one of the best movies of all time. Is this basically just a CGI remake with a duller color pallet and a cast of generic current celebrities?

This is different. Nobody is nostalgic for those properties really. Those movies are not based off of existing beloved, classic Disney movies. Nutcracker wasn't marketed well at all and Wrinkle in Time also had Oprah who is box office poison these days.

That's the point though. Movie audiences aren't as likely to take risks to pay for stuff they're not familiar with anymore. So of course they'll keep making movies that are remakes or adaptations and we'll keep paying to see them. It goes both ways.
