And the Figaro Castle quest I did wayyyyy farther back than that and definitely included it in an update.

Never mind on this! Thanks for the suggestion. I checked this out, to be sure there wasn't anything to this, and it indeed looks like there was. I'm pretty sure this is different anyway. Time to explore this basement.

As for visiting Gau's father, yep, I guess I just happened to luck out having both Sabin and Gau in my party during one of my visits, but it just ended with Gau's dad not recognizing his son. Is that the end of his story?

Yes, that's all the conclusion you get. You can wring a bit more dialogue out of it in future playthroughs, though; Terra and Locke will show up for the "give Gau a makeover" montage, if they've been re-recruited.

Speaking of which, there's a secret passage in a building in Mobliz where Terra (and Katarin) are hiding. I think Duane clues you in to the location? But it's not like there's much left of Mobliz to search.

Well, I am going to leave something that's tough to find - based on my two questions. It's here, but only if you want it -

Who was in your party when you visited Gau's father?

Make sure you bring Gau and Sabin to see Gau's father.

Do you ever stay at any of the inns? Especially with one specific character?

Sleep at the inns with Shadow. Eventually you will discover why.

So about both of these things. I've been sleeping at the inns with Shadow and, yeah, this is very interesting so far. Gotta keep doing it and see where it leads. As for visiting Gau's father, yep, I guess I just happened to luck out having both Sabin and Gau in my party during one of my visits, but it just ended with Gau's dad not recognizing his son. Is that the end of his story? He keeps asking me to fix stuff though, but maybe I can't actually fix anything?

OK then, the last poster explained Gau and how you finished his story..

With Shadow, there are five different dreams that should help you piece together who he really is.

With Terra, if you are truly stumped, here is how to find her -

Enter the building with the kids to learn about Katarin, then enter the far left building and follow the dog that entered the room to find a hidden stairway which leads to Terra and Katarin. By talking to them, you will trigger Phunbaba's second attack on the village.

Alright, this will likely be one of my last updates!

Finished exploring the Ancient Castle last night and got all the way to the dragon. Decided to save state there late last night, because I'd been playing forever and figured I'd leave off at a cool moment. So yeah, I was excited to pick right back up at the dragon today. Fighting at this point is just me mashing A and using the fight command every time, because I'm so ridiculously powerful now, so the battle of course lasted a whole minute. (I generally just use Mog's Moogle Charm now that battling is kind of pointless.) So I beat my eighth and final dragon and I get a message saying "Dragon Seal broken" and the Esper, Crusader, is all mine! Hmmm, I'm wondering: is that dragon seal broken message implying that there's somewhere new on the map I can get to? Or is that Esper my only reward? I'm guessing it's just the Esper.

I also picked up the Odin Esper there and it quickly turned into Raiden after talking to the Queen who had been turned into stone. Dang, I should have checked out the Odin summon while I had the chance! But to be honest, there's probably more than a few summons I haven't even seen anyway just because I barely use them.

Oh, and did I mention how lucky I got hitting that switch in the big open throne room of the castle? Like, damn, I just randomly happened to be mashing the A button and hit an invisible switch. These switches, which appear to have no environmental clues whatsoever, are pretty silly. I mean...the one for the final Edgar Tool was fine, but this one is what opened up the area to the dragon and the queen right? Seems a bit more essential.

I don't remember any such clue, but there's a chance I just wasn't paying attention when he told me. Anyway, heeding your advice, I basically just walked into every possible wall that I could and finally found it. Ugh, that was so ridiculous. But yay, Terra and Duane are here!

Duane apologizes to his preggo wife for being a terrible husband, they make up, and Phunbaba suddenly comes attacking Mobliz once again. Terra says she's afraid to fight, so my party gets to work without her. Very quickly, Phunbaba blows half of my party away and Terra shows up in her Esper form. Again, the boss is a joke and I mop the floor with him. The children all stare at Terra in her Esper form, calling her a "monster" and clearly fearing her. Finally, one child recognizes her and they all gather around her in a sweet little moment of acceptance. Yay, Terra is finally in my party again. I think she was Lv. 53 when I got her, so not quite as awful as I was expecting.

if we're mentioning things to do, one hint is I'm not sure Blur did any Locke picking

Yessss, these are the types of clues I adore. Kind of glossed over it at first until I checked the topic one last time late last night and immediately remembered Narshe was full of locked doors. So yeah, with Locke in the party and my Moogle Charm equipped, I made my way to every locked door I could.

So the big question here is Ragnarok: Esper or Sword? I chose the Esper, but I created a save state there anyway if I ever wanted to check out the sword (assuming there isn't another way to get one). But since then, I've done a little bit of grinding so I doubt I will bother going back.

Also found a Cursed Shield there and the NPC tells me how powerful it would be if I could cure it of its curse. Hmmm, something to ponder. And I think that was about all I found at Narshe, Double-checked to make sure I opened every possible door and high-tailed it outta there.

So I'm thinking the only major thing I have left to do is find this final dungeon and maybe do some more Colosseum battling. I am about fully done with this game. I'm sure I'll play the final boss once more (again, I have a save state right there so I doubt I'll actually replay that whole dungeon) just to see that great ending again. But otherwise, I have greatly enjoyed this wonderful game and am about ready to move on.

I gotcha. In that case, I have already seen all 5 dreams. I figured it might end with a playable dream sequence or something, kind of similar to the Cyan's soul quest, but I guess not.

Ragnarok is fun (the summon turns enemies into item) but the sword is always the best choice. Outside of its summon ability that's more of a gimmick (although powerful), the Ragnarok magicite just has nothing to offer uniquely.

The sword on the other hand can become the best sword in the game... although in FF6A there is another way to get one of those.

regarding shadow... anything you learned about him from that last dream?

And with the Ribbon to cancel all the effects other than "countdown to death". The shield that results teaches Ultima, a spell you clearly don't need (along with Meteor, the one Odin taught) given your grinding has led to superhuman levels.

goes back to a few FUN FACTS mentioned earlier:

- Memento Ring only equips to Shadow & Relm (Relm starts with one equipped, another is found in Strago/Relm's house)... which you may go note its description
- if you let Shadow die, Relm takes his place in the Veldt
- if you let Shadow die, Relm owns Interceptor (including the Interceptor Counter status effect)

... and just why Interceptor was friendly towards Relm right from the beginning in the WoB

There was also a scrapped scene between Shadow and Strago at some point:

FFWiki, V-Jump interview
Shadow and Relm's relationship was officially confirmed in developers' interviews in 1995. The developers considered having a scene in a bar (presumably in Thamasa) where Strago asks Shadow to reveal his identity. The dialogue was supposed to be as follows:

Strago: I have one request... Show me your face. Even if you are him, I have no intention of wasting time trying to talk you into staying. I just want to know... for Relm's sake...
Shadow: ...... (He takes off his mask and shows Strago his face. However, his back is turned so that the player can't see.)
Strago: Thank you... Shadow. ...Come, let's have a drink.

Also all those dreams could've been viewed in the WoB. So really Shadow's existence is just an extra in the WoR, which is why his Veldt appearance is glitched and obtaining him is pretty straight forward and simple. He does get a moment in the ending though.

Oh right, the GBA version is much more clear in the final dream, referring to the "daughter" rather than the "girl".

*edit*

oh right most obviously, if you let Shadow die... Relm has a dream instead when you get her knocked out in the Veldt (where you get Shadow's fifth dream if he lives).

I've been playing more of the game today, but don't really have too much to update on. Was just doing some more Colosseum battling/item exchanging. And then I found out there was a second Aegis shield in the final dungeon, so I went exploring all over that dungeon and finally found it. Aside from that, just back backtracking to various other dungeons with a Moogle Charm equipped to see if I can find any other treasures. I'm about to put Strago in my party now and do some more exploring.

Man, wish I had gotten FFVI Advance. Would have loved all this other content and that post-eight dragons dungeon especially. That was the exact reward I was hoping for. But I suppose it was cool to play this in the classic localization, even though I'm assuming the script is better in FFVIA since it's at the very least more accurate.

Hmm, I still have my copy of FFV Advance. I wonder if I should give that another go. My GBA SP broke forever ago, but I do have my original DS that I can play it on. It's...actually also semi-broken, though I don't think the bottom screen is messed up at all. Or I could just buy another GBA SP. I need to do that anyway because I still have my collection of original Game Boy/Game Boy Color games and no system that can play them anymore.

And awww yeah, made it to the Ebot's Rock dungeon. Just so happened to go right to Thamasa very shortly after equipping Strago. I honestly had no clue where I was supposed to go, I just got lucky. So am I, uh, supposed to only have Strago for this dungeon in order to find this monster? That's what Strago said, but I walked inside with a full party.

If I need to have just Strago, I may want to do some grinding at the good old dino forest. He's a paltry level 43... Sabin is level 80 now! Poor Strago.
