That's why I mentioned the idol nullifer. Granted, they don't KNOW he has a second idol. But still, all they need to do is nullify Dan, steal a vote, and vote Dan out.

it's more like, they steal the vote to get the numbers and the nullifier is insurance. either one alone is a huge risk.

seems to me like the davids are hoping that by voting out the most likeable, unifying member of the goliaths that they can expose the cracks that everyone knows are there. wouldn't be shocked if the game opens up after this episode, but sometimes postmerge i can never quite gauge the way things'll swing

Y'all, I'm shook. My mouth was literally agape at that tribal council. I'm super bummed that John was the one who ultimately got the boot, but I can't even be mad at it. This season is amazingly good.

Inviso, I don't know how you can dislike Alec after all the time you've spent complaining about people who just stick with the majority alliance. That's twice now that he's stopped the Goliaths from just sticking together and picking off the Davids. Without him we'd probably be looking at Naviti Strong 2.0.

Again, there is a difference between "I'm on the bottom and need to flip because it's in my best interest" and "I'm in a decent position, but I feel like flipping just because".

When someone flips because it's their best move, it's more likable than someone unnecessarily playing into the producers' "YOU NEED TO MAKE BIG MOVES" narrative for attention.

my favourite thing is probably John's great big smile at the end. He just landed with the hot potato at the end of a crazy double idol tribal council and he's not even mad. He's loving it. It's what Survivor is all about and he knows it. Great stuff.

I don't think it's a bad move. Obviously the *best* move would have been for him to read what was happening correctly and predict John would get voted and give him the idol but that's a little unrealistic.

What WAS known was that Angelina would probably get votes, and by giving her the idol he's proven himself to his alliance and to her.

Angelina wasn't actually going home, so you might say that it was a waste, but I disagree; that's actually why it was a good move. If she begged him for the idol after he promised he'd save her, and he DIDN'T do it, and then John goes home in a 3-2 split, their relationship would be pretty permanently destroyed. Instead she should definitely come out of this feeling like she owes him big time.

Though I don't think Dan really thought this move out that much. I think he was more or less guilted into doing it.

fwiw, i dont think anything alec has done post merge has been "flipping just to flip". i think he's consciously playing both sides while still voting with the goliaths. how much he has been flying under the radar remains to be seen, but he definitely wants to look good to the davids while stile ending up with goliaths at the end imho

Good episode. Carl, Davie, and Nick are who I'm rooting for. It would be neat if that alliance sticks together, but I'll be surprised if it's still a thing two episodes from now. I doubt Christian considers any of them among his closest allies despite the idol play.

There has probably never been a pettier reason for me to (nearly) sour on an otherwise likable contestant than when Nick named his alliance with Mike "The Rockstars" because of the School of Rock connection. Like, Mike is a writer and it doesn't occur to you how awkwardly trite that name is? Fortunately Nick has only continued to prove that he's a decent and humble person.

So let's see...

Christian's slide puzzle confessional with all the jump cuts (this could be expanded to Christian confessionals in general, since the stick confessional is pretty good too.)

The first exchange between Dan & Kara: "Your name's Kara? That's cool. Like Supergirl. I named my dog after her." "Oh yeah? What's your dog's name?" "...Kara." Or something like that. I just found it amusing at the time.

Natalie character entry.

Gabby's paranoia making her think Elizabeth wanted to tell her she was voting her (Gabby) out.

Christian's obsession with the politics of Slamtown.

Natalia's reaction to getting voted out.

Jacket-gate and everything to do with it.

Angelina's hilariously-transparent efforts to butter people up.

Ironic confessional from Angelina: "We have to keep our plan a secret because an expert tactician doesn't reveal their strategy to the enemy." Followed by her openly revealing her strategy to Elizabeth and putting a target on her back.

Dan going full Tony Perkis during the immunity challenge and muttering to himself about how awesome he is.

I'm very disappointed that I got spoiled on this particular episode by not watching it for almost a whole week (because I had a concussion) because that was a ridiculous move. Going into tribal without him being brought up and knowing he was going home I figured it was going to rocks.

Still this is an awesome season. I really hope nothing awful happens to drag it down because this is easily top 10, possibly top 5 material so far.

And I don't outright dislike anybody (including those already booted).

No, Jeff is very much like a promoter for pro-wrestling. He wants what have you done for me lately so everything seems more exciting. But what he is right about is idols being played for someone else and the votes being canceled.
