i feel like it's been years since i've seen anyone talk about it

picked up sorcerer's stone last night for the first time since 2011 and after 2 chapters i was like, i don't want to do a damn thing else until i've finished every book again

it's been years since i've seen the movies but i dig them too, although i am less keen on the later yates ones. 1 and 4 were always my favorites

Every year there's something new I realize that makes me disappointed in it

Most of the time however it's JK saying some stupid shit or retcon

They're good books.

But JK Rowling needs to stop with the shitty retcons. This nagini one is nearly "Han shot first" levels of character ruining.

No it isnt. Its been a theory for years and it does indeed fit with past info whether you believe her that it was the original plan or not

The books themselves and the world built within them is great, and the Rowling stated plot advancements are fine.

The inconsequential piddly shit fanservice details she spouts to satisfy her panel audiences fanfic headcannon can fuck right off tho

So Voldemort having a positive connection to another human doesn't change his character? There wasn't an entire book devoted to how he's f***ed up and can't feel love or affection for people? His closest companion being a hot girl instead of a snake doesn't change anything?

I did not care for the movies much when my girlfriend at the time dragged me to the theater to see them, but I've changed my mind since then. I recently rewatched the entire series and enjoyed it a lot more when I paid more attention. Haven't read the books yet.

I'm guessing you only watched the film's. Or a babies picture book or something.

Ive read them for 17 years. Nice try.

We dont know when she comes into his service, if its before or after she becomes 100% snake. And its flatout stated that hes closer to Nagini than anything or anyone else

Eh I guess then AT BEST it's completely unnecessary.

What does "voldemort's snake used to be a human girl" add to anything? About as necessary as learning Hedwig's family life before she ended up in a pet shop.

Finally watched all the movies last summer and thought they were actually pretty good. Liked it better than the LotR trilogy tbh.

I love HP. Every 5-10 years I reread the series and it just is nice. She is a good writer and it feels comfy to read her Harry Potter books.

The Fantastic Beasts series looks awesome, particularly the sequel coming out, but I couldnt really get into the first movie.

I mean, I'd say that argues in his favor. In the original books, Nagini was just a big-ass venomous snake that Voldemort had as a pet. Giving her this human backstory just sort of overcomplicates things for no reason. It's a dumb, pointless change.

I love the original 7 books. Completely ignored the series for years before finally giving book 1 a try. Went through it in about 2-3 days, and immediately bought the rest.

I think the movies are just ok. Not a fan of Fantastic Beasts or the Cursed Child.

They're entertaining, and I get people loving them, but I don't get the people who think they're brilliant. They're not.

I think I'm in the minority here when I say having Harry and Hermione not end up together was a good choice. Shit doesn't always end up going how you think it will - I like that she went with it.

Rowling herself is kinda just annoying now.

I really enjoyed the books, but haven't read them in probably a decade. I think my favorite has to be Deathly Hallows.

As for the movies, Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite; I liked Alfonso Cuaron's directing, and enjoyed that the movie greatly expanded upon the time travel shenanigans at the climax. My interest in the movies really fell off hard with Goblet of Fire onward; they just got so much wrong with that movie and never really recovered from it. I still haven't seen Deathly Hallows Pt 1. Such a shame that Richard Harris couldn't make it through the entire series.

ah i'm a total dingus, i forgot to say my favorite books were always 1 and 3 then 6 (i originally read them before 4 came out and lost interest before 5 did)

i remember the goblet film having so much different with it but i didn't really care because i had so much fun with it. iirc 6 had lots of changes too but i wasn't as keen on that one. i think the deathly hallows films were all right

Loved the books. The movies were...eh, there were things they did I think were stupid, but I didn't actually have major problems with them until GOF. From there, IMO they went decidedly downhill, and there's so much wrong with HBP and DH that I almost can't enjoy then anymore.
