Funny how when a few Pixel 2's went out with some bad screens, everyone and their mother shit on it, called it a failed phone.

Now when Apple does it. NO BIG DEAL! amirite?

Not only that, the Pixel 2 was "only" $850 when that happened. Apple is asking for $1000+ and not even giving you premium hardware for it

Apple is literally promoting a $750 phone as the "phone for everyone".

I actually find Android (from Marshmallow onward) to be a far more "it just works" ecosystem than iOS. iOS has added a lot of features over the past few years, but in a misguided effort to keep the home screen as "pure" as possible, they created endless menus and sub menus in the Settings section.

Plus, there are some inexplicable design choices that are starting to become obnoxious. Legitimate widgets, for one.

I agree with this entirely I'm just saying this goes against the core beliefs Apple built their ecosystem on. If you ever got into the Nexus line and then into the Pixel you'd see how absolutely buttery smooth the whole experience is, but also how user-friendly it is. Want to beta test the newest Android OS? Feel free. Want to download whatever APKs, 3rd party apps, etc. Yep have fun

Android's biggest issue are the low and midrange phones ruining the reputation of the flagships.

Also third party corps putting their shit launcher instead of just using vanilla android.

Even the most recent iterations of TouchWiz have become really well designed and intuitive.

In fact, in the last couple years, Android updates usually include features that TW did first (multi-window, night mode, etc)

People say this a lot, but stock Android is flavorless and boring.

Also, if its security you want, there are only 2 phones that are currently government and NSA certified. iPhones and Galaxy devices.

Stock Android gives you faster updates, but that's pretty much it. Sammy can take as long as they want to roll out their version of Pie as there really isn't anything on the stock version that I can't emulate.

Man, Apple are the best at spinning a negative into something positive.

I guess they could integrate a haptics engine into the keyboard for simulated keypresses for those of us who like keyboards to be noisy but that seems like a crazy reinventing of the wheel

You know, I upgraded earlier in the year from an iPhone 6 to a Galaxy S9, and this made me realize I have no idea if my phone has its own 3D touch features. I completely forgot that existed.

Still, it's pretty cheeky that they're cutting corners on their "value" phone that's still $750.

$750, fuck me. Like, I get it, it's the phone for everyone that just wants a new iPhone but doesn't wanna cough up four figures. But if you're deeply invested in the iOS ecosystem and you're looking to upgrade, you can only go as cheaply as a lower-end model without an OLED screen with the pixel density of their eight-year-old iPhone 4. That wouldn't be so bad if it were just $300 or less. But $750. My goodness.

Not to mention, the iPhone is a giffen good, so they can get away with exorbitant pricing because it's meant to be a status symbol. So I could see the XS and XS Max selling to the fashion-focused crowd, but if their low-end is really gonna be that expensive, I can see that driving a lot of not-so-wealthy people to Android. Which wouldn't be much of a problem in the short run, but, lower sales across the board = less concern for iOS development = a weaker app store, and a weaker ecosystem.

The modern fashion-focused Apple is... questionable. Fashion and technology have never really merged much before, and the fashion world is fickle and willing to drop anyone and anything on moment's notice. It seems like they're playing with some very high-risk, high-reward tactics lately, so I guess we'll see where they are in ten years.

$750 for a phone with a 720p-ish LCD screen and 64 GB of storage. The media has been calling this a "great deal"

And Samsung got shit for selling the quad HD OLED Galaxy S9 for $720.

We gonna ignore the fact that the screen doubled in size, has a wide color gamut and True Tone, the battery is statistically the best in any iPhone, and has the same chipset and camera as the XS?

Of course we are, because that would make the screen argument alone sound silly

Unless you're an Android fanboy or a PC master race type, tell me just exactly why should you care about the resolution if you use the phone for ordinary things like most people do.

We gonna ignore the fact that most people just watch Netflix at 480P or 144P YouTube videos too I guess, there goes that precious resolution to waste

I also think people spend too much time worrying about what the competition is doing, they obviously have more to lose than Apple and therefore will kiss ass to win you over.

Samsung gave you a free Gear Fit 2, year of Netflix or a 200 GB card with a Note 7 purchase back in 2016. Should Apple suddenly include a free Apple Watch or 256GB standard storage or risk being called names by people who don't even use their products? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

I love how the likes of Beanz will only focus on the stuff Apple doesn't currently smack the competition in entirely.

iPads? "Hurr who uses a tablet anyway"
Millions of people, actually.

Apple Watch? "Hurr who uses a smartwatch anyway"
Millions of people, actually. Why do you think everyone besides Samsung gave up on Android Wear lol

OnePlus apparently includes cases with some of their phones. Should all phones come with cases now?

You can fling around the price all you want, but you can get a modern IOS experience in all three areas (phone, tablet, Watch) for under $1000 and that's partially why they control the market so much and why they can afford to take risks in their flagships.

And if someone posts that fucking misinformed Unbox Therapy video again I'm gonna hurl. Some people already narrowed that issue down to a new software feature that locks your phone from being hacked by USB accessories. It has an issue with the timing but lmao if it's some sort of -gate scandal

You may now proceed to ignore everything I just said and go on with your gatekeeping, just trying to enlighten the people willing to listen to reason here

Having "duds" is acceptable if it's around a 1-2% failure rate. When you're getting up into the rates we're seeing places like Unbox Therapy, it's much more serious than "a few duds" slipping past QC.
