anyway i rate normal mode of uncharted 1 8ish/10 (deviation of +/- 0.5) with the platforming being really annoying at times, the cover system being really bad, and honestly the final chapters were awful. still a good game.

I don't know why, I just never really got into 3. The pacing was weird, and the villains were arguably the weakest of the series. 1 on the other hand was a quick, fun, contained game that I really owe to dragging me into the series. 3 had its moments but always just kinda felt "there" among the others.

They ought to just make the movies out of the games instead of going the "our own story" route like too many (failed) VG movies do. The first one is short and contained enough that it could easily be adapted into a 2 hour movie without cutting anything significant. 2-4 would have to be a bit longer (at least 2 and a half hours) and probably make some cuts.

yeah uc1 is like maybe an 8 hour game, and thats with 100 deaths from really bad platforming issues and the final boss (i forget his name) oneshotting you like a dick and sending you back to the start of the level

Ewww an 8 for Uncharted 1? That's quite high. Uncharted 1 is like a 6 to me, and I played it not too long after it had just come out.

Uncharted 2, on the other hand, is a 10. One of last generation's finest.

I'd say a 7.5 or even a solid 8 is about right for U1. It's short, but it's a fun little adventure that's aged pretty well. It's fast-paced and well paced. There's a variety of gameplay that keeps you on your toes, the story is a great intro to the series, and four of the six principal characters are pretty fun (the two main villains are boring, but the tertiary villain, Eddy, is pretty fun).

The enemies in UC2 were annoying bullet sponges. I played all of then on Crushing because trophies and 2 was easily the most annoying

I liked Drake in 1 and 3 but had the charisma of a cardboard box in 2. He felt like a completely different character and not in a good way.

And there was basically no Sully which is a crime

Also I thought the train sequence was dumb. I have never been more shocked than when I went to the internet and found out that part is widely adored.

8 for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune does seem a little high. The PS4 remaster is pretty impressive but it has the worst level design of the three games and probably the least meaningful story as well.

Uncharted 2 has so much better level design, way better setpieces, a way better and more meaningful story... really it's a fantastic game. I almost wouldn't say a 10 anymore, but when I played it the first time, I thought it was a 10. Uncharted 4... now THAT game is a 10! But Uncharted 2 is still incredible and it hasn't aged poorly at all.

Yeah that was a big shocking moment for me. The game had me totally convinced that Chloe had replaced Elena as the female sidekick, but when Elena showed up I realized this was truly a continuation of the story than just a standalone sequel.

I haven't played 3 or 4, but I'm going to echo the 1>2 sentiment.

As poor as some of the platforming in 1 is, it's at least mildly more interesting than 2 where there are numerous lengthy platforming sections that consist of "hold a direction and press X repeatedly until Drake reaches his destination, or alternatively, until he randomly reaches in a direction nowhere near the direction the left stick is being pushed, in which case, let go of the stick, re-engage in the same direction you were just pushing, then mash X, rinse, and repeat."

Also the plot of 2 is incredibly dumb.

Just finished UC2 on Normal.

Feel like the game actually was overhyped. Like it's much better than the first one, the villain is awesome, and there were no actual really awful platforming segments or jet skis or whatever. The narrative had its ups and downs: I enjoyed how it began in medias res and the change of scenery. I liked the theme of finding Shambala and Marco Polo and all that. It just kinda lacked the punch of searching for El Dorado, and being stuck on the same island the entire game just in terms of...straightforward-ness. I dunno, hard to speak more to that besides to say that actually finding the treasure than it being just sap...I dunno, hard to describe.

Speaking on locales, I wasn't a fan of snowy Tibet. Simply because of the snow blurring, along with me kinda sucking and always being damaged. It really made the game more difficult than it should have been, simply because the aiming became harder by proxy.

Combat is and was 100% better. Mostly the melee. It was insanely shit in UC1, but actually playing with the shotgun and being in close was fun. The set pieces were incredible compared to UC1--did it really have all that many besides jet skis? The battle jumping between trucks, the entire chase scene on (another) truck, and escaping the broken train. All more memorable than anything in UC1 in terms like that.

UC1's simplicity despite major flaws (combat, bad platforming) was a fine experience. UC2 completely blows it out of the water. But it's not a masterpiece. The platforming is still clunky. I've died with shitty covering and getting stuck hanging from ledges and unable to get to actual cover. Part of this clunk may be due to my old PS4 controller's left analog stick and it not being as sensitive as it should have been.

I'd probably score UC2 around a 9, +/- 0.2 points. Probably higher if the controls are actually far more crisp than I give it credit for and that my controller sucks or something. Great game. But not a masterpiece. Perhaps if I played this 9 years ago I'd consider it higher.

i feel like in drakes fortune, he doesnt get saved from execution because of nazi zombies or dumb shit. but maybe i already forget. its hard to hold the suspension of disbelief with zoran murdering you when...well, there were 2 other games...and you aint gonna die anyway
