I was in grade 11 (Junior year for you Americans) and our Principal made an announcement that if anyone needed to come use the phone to call home, etc they could come down to her office. I went to very multicultural high school in the Toronto area and there were a few people with relatives in NYC.

A friend of mines sister worked there but called in sick that morning. Crazy.

Did she work on the most affected floors? Did her co workers survive? Would she have likely escaped?

Not much nothing was on tv and the teachers where hush about it. I saw the second plane hit on tv cuz I was late in the morning. I do know we had a planned fieldtrip to downtown cancelled the following week.

All I remember of the details was that she worked in the first tower that was hit, below the impact of the plane. I'm not sure how many below that died but I assume that most of the survivors from that day were people like her?

The teacher talked to us for a few minutes and then let us see it on the tv and answered questions we had. Eventually we went to the art room and worked on this big American flag poster, I don't remember if it was actually sent somewhere or just hung in the school. Some parents called the school to talk to their kids

I don't remember anything else except we didn't have recess, I live in PA but not close to where flight 93 went down but when we didn't have recess I thought maybe it was closer then they said and I remember trying to see if I could see anything from out the window

We had an assembly in the auditorium. They played footage and tried to explain the gravity of what was going on.

i live in alabama, i don't think anyone at school knew, but it was like, first or second period english class and me and my friend went to the book fair to pick up a coulpeof things, but it wasnt the normal book fair time so it was just us in there with the adults running it, and they were all watching it unfold on tv. we didn't really understand what was going on at the time (i don't think anyone else did yet either, it was that early) and when we got back to class we told our teacher about it and i thought it had been bombed? but they might have referenced the '93 bombing on the news and i just got mixed up. the teacher looked worried and confused and also probably thought we might be making it up. the rest of the day mostly went on as normal i think

I was in grad school about 2 hours from NYC. Was about to teach a class on American Foreign Policy. Heard about the first plane on the Today Show. Heard about the Pentagon on the radio on the drive into school.

When I got to class I told everyone who wanted to leave that they could. Many students had friends & relatives in NYC. Then I got a TV and ran it the duration of the class period. IIRC the university cancelled classes for the week.

They didn't tell us anything at all during the day. I didn't know anything was even happening until I came home from school and saw the news.

This. I understand why but it annoys me hearing all these stories of kids getting to watch the event live. I would have preferred that to being kept in the dark.

Was in 2nd grade. Heard reports of an attack and kids were being pulled out of school all day long. Teachers were talking about it all day and didn't really try teaching too hard, instead answering our questions about it.

I remember coming home to the TV and literally every station except Nick and Cartoon Network was showing the news.

They wheeled in a crt after the first strike and we watched the second tower get hit. After that period we just kind of continued the day as usual.

I was in fifth grade. The teachers gave us a random early extended recess and had a meeting. The TVs were left on pretty much the rest of the day but we more or less resumed normal activities.
