Well I finally got a game over, though to be fair Ive pretty much avoided fights entirely since Act 2 started so I guess its my fault.

Or maybe its stupid Zings fault for only having 50% success.

I had 2 game overs against the true final boss but those were the only ones although I did have two or three close calls before that

I usually overprepared for every fight though so that's on me

Where are you at? The first Act of the game is definitely a big pushover. Some of the fights in Act 2 have been tough in the sense that I had to actually pay attention to what I was doing somewhat, but was never in any real danger.

This is the first one that surprised me with the damage output. I beat it the second attempt, but I got a bad roll of a crit on my healer the turn after he got knocked down so couldn't act to heal the party.

I should probably start fighting stuff again.

Zing's success rate sure doesn't feel like 50% in this game for me, lol. I had one boss where I spent legit 8 turns in a row trying to revive somebody. Thank god for Zing Stick being accessible reasonably early and largely saving me from that mess. X_X

Am I playing the same game as you? We (my husband and I) are playing on normal and we have had a pretty rough time once we got to act 2. (we never got a game over, but we constantly had to heal with Rab and Sylvando)

Even in act one we never two rounded bosses except maybe the first couple.

Then again I get the copies of Fire Emblem where units that are high tier have worse stats than others. (Like Xander, Leo and Camilla turn out worse than other units at an equal level. I finally got a Rinkah that turned out bad like she is supposed to be )

I just never seem to have the same experiences as everyone else when playing games. Maybe I use a bad set up, but its what my husband wanted to do. We don't min max or play the casino except the time the plot made you. That was so hilarious how it was rigged

I'm definitely overleveled, but I'm playing the game the same way I've played previous entries (and in most of those there were some challenging bosses).

Is it just me or do shops become more valuable in Part 2? In Part 1 it was super common for every shop I found to be way behind my crafted gear, but I'm starting to find a lot of actual (albeit pricey) upgrades now that recipes seem to be more staggered. Of course I'm sure a ton of the good stuff comes from quests which I'm putting off for just a bit while I reassemble the party.

Okay, this game has made me cry. They killed off my favorite character again just like a certain other game. Apparently somehow she comes back in post game somehow though.

The parade is the best part of the game though. I had to show all my friends.

I'm right there with you! Even though I knew you could save from the menu I don't think I ever saved in anything other than a phone booth. That being the case, it's funny how quickly I got used to Y6's auto-save!

Axes and shields are totally godlike. Dude is a beast of a tank, blocks damn near everything and has crazy utility AND damage on his axe. Honestly feels like you can't go wrong with him depending on what else is in your party though.

This is probably the first time since I was actually a little kid that an RPG has actually taken me fully by surprise. I was legit in denial about Veronica's death because I was thinking "oh, well they wouldn't kill off your only dedicated black mage, she'll probably pull a Rydia or something and come back as an adult because MAGIC. But as things kept going on I became less and less sure, then the hair cutting happened and they turned Serena into a super mage who inherits all of her abilities. The message about Serena inheriting the abilities hit me harder than all the scenes before - it was a crazy cocktail of emotion, sadness and excitement. I noticed immediately upon getting them in part 1 that their skill boards completed one another but to see them actually make use of that is unbelievable.

I'm BLOWN AWAY. God damn I can't believe a Dragon Quest game just pulled all of that.

It's funny because I think they predict that reaction and they know exactly how to break it. It's one of those things that's actually more surprising the bigger a DQ fan you are.

but that's also when I started doing the exp trick and everyone was like 70 by the end of that dungeon

Tried out the fast level up method and yep that works fine. It involves using Haulellujah pep power (Hero/Jade/Erik) to get increased exp/gold from your current battle, then accelerating everyone and defending until you get Hero, Jade and Sylvando pepped up again to use Electro Light which has a chance of replacing all enemies in battle with metal slimes relative to your level. It'll work better the higher level you are because you'll eventually get vicious metal king slimes around when you get to level 80 which are worth a boatload of exp (plus even more when you pair it with the pep ability that boosts EXP)

Then when it comes to killing the slimes you want Erik (whom you accelerated earlier) to have his Critical Claim ability for a guaranteed critical hit. I was able to have him attack twice in a row with this to take take out 2 of the 3 slimes right away, then I was able to finish off the 3rd with Jade's Lightning Thrust ability.

This has ENDGAME PART 2 SPOILERS in it so watch at your own risk, but I ended up getting 1 Metal King Slime and 2 Vicious Liquid Metal Slimes and killed them all for 246,246 EXP which was enough to level up my guys twice, but I've seen it go over 900K if you're lucky enough to get 3 vicious metal king slimes (which you wouldn't get until you're 80+ anyway.)

This will come in handy for the post-game when I need to quickly max everyone out to 99 for trophy purposes

If anyone in here is playing on PC, the orchestra soundtrack mod is out and it makes an INSANE difference. This legit feels like the soundtrack the game was meant to have. (I think because it was? I don't know the full story but it sounds like there was a proper mess and they failed to get the rights from the composer.)

I never have a problem with music I am told I am supposed to hate.

We (my husband and I) are about to go into final dungeon. Is level 48-49 enough? Everyone else is saying they were over that but we didn't do the experience trick. (also no draconic challenges)

I don't mind the MIDI, I got used to it after like an hour, but I don't think the soundtrack is that great.

But I never thought Sugiyama's stuff was that great to begin with so I guess that's not surprising.
