Apparently the Charlottesville PD is mobilizing big time... to protect the nazis? They killed a woman last year. They carried tiki torches. They beat up a black man.

Why are they the ones who will get protected? The cops might as well wave their flag too.

The police have a commitment to public safety. They don't get to choose which American citizens they protect and who not to, no matter how foul their beliefs.

Furthermore, one could suggest the police are there to not only keep the group from coming to harm, but also to keep the group from causing harm.

A huge court case a while back determined that the police do not have an obligation to protect anyone.

This, Protect and Serve is a marketing tool they used to soften the negative stigmata police had back in the 60's to the 80's. It was never legally binding a cop is not a public servant nor should the public expect them to be at their beck and call at a moment's notice. The standards the public holds the cops to and the standards the government that employs them holds them to are very different.

If a group of thugs comes to your town to harass, hurt and intimidate a sector of your population you're supposed to deal with the thugs, not vow to protect them.

We saw it in Portland, the cops went HAM on the counter-protestors, and never the nazis.

These people do hold some of the most disgusting opinions on the planet, but they generally do not actually go around beating up and killing people at these dumb rallies. And while antifa is not ideologically worse than white supremacy, they do pose a greater risk to the average person considering their criteria for someone to attack is paper thin. Horrible people on both sides.

Because it shuts down all the right-leaning "I have facts! Disprove my facts! It's not about reaching an agreement if I'm RIGHT!" types that we seem to have a few too many of.

But the Nazis shot first. They drew blood first. They will always be the ones who drew blood first, and nothing can change that. The public will always see those Charlottesville demonstrators as murderers in the court of public opinion, and they can't do anything to change it.

Its really no differen than the guy who punched Spencer. Punching him made his cause seem legitimate. It made it seem like his dribble was important. In the same way, falsely demonizing the cause with the actions of a single person also makes them feel like they are more legitimate. They are scared of our truth so they over exaggerate to try to shut us down. Outrage culture helps foster this kind of stuff.

If people had just let ignored them, they would have no voice. They would still be a dumb fringe group that everyone laughs at. I think that could potentially work. Let them spew their dribble peacefully, only reacting with violence if they cause violence, and then everybody laughs at how dumb they look. Hold a peaceful counter protest. Dont go there with the intention of punching some nazis.

Police have to protect everyone who isnt actually breaking the law. Or at least theyre supposed to. And you know the tactics of these Nazi fucks, they use internet troll tactics but in person. Theyll be out there trying to goad people into physically attacking them, saying the worst possible things to counter protesters, racial slurs, etc.

They want to get someone to snap so they can catch it on video and then post it with the narrative that the counter protesters are savages trying to infringe on their rights. The police preventing any violence from occurring is the best scenario here.
