How do you know they are suffering? Mental defects is more of a direct burden on the parents usually as ignorance is bliss. And idk to your question. I wouldn't do it to my kid.

Yes. But there would have to be a detailed set of rules and an update to the current laws regarding assisted suicide and euthanasia.

In cases where they are say brain dead, have severe brain damage, terminal disease, ect. The legal guardian should be able to authorize euthanasia

Would have to be a cutoff age when the issues would have likely manifested. Probably no older than 4.

Only in extreme cases.

Like complete paralysis with severe brain damage and no chance of recovery.

Immobile and their brain is too damaged for anything meaningful to really happen. Life is pointless suffering at that point.

well it almost sounds like some people in this topic want to be able to just kill their kid no matter what issues they have or dont' have. I don't like it. I feel very icky about the whole thing but at the very least, this should only ever been up for consideration when the kid is SUPER disabled. like they aren't really thinking. braindead basically. even someone with down's syndrome has a right to live and they are capable of being happy. it would be murder to kill your kid just cause they have down syndrome. even if they don't see it coming, that's fucked up. it's betrayel of the innocent. I don't want society to become ok with child murder. we are not Carthage.

No, any time someone is a vegetable we should just keep them on life support indefinitely. If any major organ starts to fail, get them a healthy transplant ASAP as to not deprive them of their magical and enriching life experience.

Some people want to kill a kid who is happy just cause they don't want to deal with them. Like I said some of the people in this topic would abuse this new law and murder kids who have nothing wrong with them. Imagine murdering a normal 4 year old

Hitlers first casualty was taking control of healthcare and ordering the death of a disabled child.

Hitler used the at the time Liberal Supreme Court decisions and Planned Parenthood propoganda at the time to excuse this.

Margret Sanger of Planned Parenthood lamented that Germany would be way ahead of us on reproductive rights if this continues

Yes but only in extreme situations. Like downs isn't even close to a reason to euthanize a child. But disabilities that are terminal and put the kid in a lot of pain arr what I'm referring to, otherwise you're just forcing the kid to suffer until they finally succumb and get that sweet relief of death.

Whose suffering? The parents'? >_> Most supposed quality of life arguments ignorantly approach things from *our* perspective, whereas somebody with a severe disability doesn't know things differently. And, in general, there's no guarantee or even reasonable expectation that a healthy child will avoid a life of suffering because life frequently involves suffering. The only way to prevent lives of suffering is to end all life.

And, in general, these bad-faith arguments aren't about the parent or the child, but about third-parties who dislike the impaired and, if they had the choice, would likely purge a fuckload more than just the impaired from our society. After all, that's where a lot of murderous regimes started.

Really depends on the condition. Some things aren't recognized or diagnosed until later. Then there are conditions which don't emerge until later.

I've taken brain dead patients out of houses before and personally I'd rather be killed and not be a burden to my family than live like that everyday while everyone else has to majorly adjust their life for me when I'm literally just going to lay in bed forever with no interaction >_> It's obviously a complex issue though

If the kid is still a fetus, I'd err towards "yes" - though a factor should be if there are complications for the parent or child during the pregnancy. If the kid is going to have an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, causing development issues, or if the mother is in danger if the pregnancy progresses - yeah, that should be an option.

Once they're out of the womb, though, they're a living, breathing person with the right to life. If the parents don't want their handicapped child, then they should give them up to someone who will care for them.

There could be a level of severity post-birth that necessitates euthanasia, but that's the gist of my feelings towards the subject.
