Im pissed. My boy, Ford, is on his last legs. After a last ditch effort to save him, I spent about 5k on repairs.

To no avail, I now have to go car shopping. Which sucks. I paid off my car a year or so back, so entering the car payment game is eye opening. Im going back to school too, so all these additional expenses are going to piss me off.

The mechanic suggested I just get a sedan. Tho Im used to my Escape. Are there any good reccommendations?

I really dont need a new car, just a not so old used one tbh. Low maintenance. Any finance gurus here?

Hyundai Sonata

Try around 30-50k miles

Very affordable, reliable, and nice.

Depending on your credit, probably around $200-$300/month payments

Get a used VW.

I have a 2013 Sonata and the fuel mileage is garbage (and in fact Hyundai got in trouble for lying about their fuel mileage around that time). So. Also I've had a few Hyundais. They're not bad but they feel... a little rough. don't know how to describe it.

I've been around cars and car people my whole life, and I can safely say do not get a VW.

I've had three Hyundais and the gas mileage is not "garbage" at all. It's decent. And the ride quality of a newer Sonata is not "rough" either. It's quite comfy.

A VW is only a good option if you want to waste money on a mediocre car.

I'd agree for the most part but I've got a pre scandal jetta diesel and that thing has been a dream. 200+k miles and it still runs and shifts like new. Nice to get 650 miles per tank as well.

Whatever is popular in your town is usually a safe bet in terms of availability of parts and technicians. Subaru is a good bet in my town because there are so many of them.

I avoid American made cars because Ive never had any good experiences with them. They burn way more gas than the competition and theyre unreliable.

Hyundai blatantly lied about their mileage. Aesthetically Hyundais are great but how they feel leaves a lot to be desired for me.

I got a 2015 Passat in 2016, it had been a fleet vehicle, that thing has been great to me so far and I can actually drive to work and back without burning through a quarter of a tank (and 90% of my commute is on the highway).

If you can drive a stick, look to get a Ford Fiesta.

It ain't gonna get you laid, but I regularly get 40 miles to the gallon and after the initial 3000 miles you only need to change the oil once a year or every 10000 miles.

If you can't drive a stick, don't get a Fiesta though. I've heard the automatic transmissions on them are dogshit and will get you killed on highways.

Addendum stickers are rip off stickers if they include

-Security Stickers/Stamps
-Pinstripe that is more than like 30 bucks
-3 year environmental paint insurance (Your paint won't have any issues in 3 years unless *you* do something, at which point they won't cover it)
-Those flashing break lights if they are more than like 150 bucks

There's probably other shit too, but I can't think of them right now.

If you see that shit and they won't budge, walk away. They should be able to negotiate a price, but more realistically a dealer should have some vehicles without additions on the lot or should be able to get one.

Well I've got a 16 ST, which has a different focus(pun intended). I'll admit I'm over exaggerating. I'm not trying to Initial D it, and inertia drift all over my friends, but I just don't think I got my bang for my buck. I had issues shifting into 3rd for the longest time. I looked it up and I'm still not sure what the problem was. I'm assuming it was something with the synchro considering I had to replace it twice. I don't know if it was always the case, but the wheel hop is annoying. And then whenever I run the A/C there's a bit of a rattle. It's nothing big. I asked the dealership and they said that's just how it is. Probably because I'm always blasting the AC. It's just for paying what I payed for a turbo, and I compare my problems to my friends... Maybe they just aren't vocal about their car problems, but they have no issues. Perhaps if I went with the RS, then things might have turned out differently.

I see. I was told foreign costs more for maintenance, but ideally, if they have less issues it wont matter.

Thanks guys. Im legit taking everything into account.

Gonna head to a dealership tomorrow.

Checking sites and I found a used 2007 Subaru Impreza for estimated price of $8000 (171 per month).

Tho fine print says its for the high echelon of credit worthiness so I can expect a little higher.

Its only had two prior owners, the most recent only having it for a year. Carfax shows its received regular maintenance along the years too.

74k miles tho. And 23 mpg seems really low.

Is this a good deal at all?

Just put what you want and then add a couple of local dealerships and they will give you their best offer for the car. Then you can go to other dealerships and see if they will beat the best price you get. Makes haggling easy.
