Yeah, it's unfortunate that HiDive is waiting two days after the Japanese broadcast to upload it subbed. I don't think a fansubber will pick it up just to get it out faster than the official release either, but oh well. We'll get to see it this Saturday and see all the awesomeness for real.

Huh, I got modded cuz the moderators thought BT was an illegal manga hosting site. When they usually act under fair use and can have their content taken down accordingly to law, they're not exactly legal, nor a manga hosting site but a Web/Light Novel host primarily. Technically fan translated manga isn't illegal either btw. Because the holder of rights don't own the cleaning, redrawing, and translating of mangas btw. It's an interpretation of a source material for non-profit. Hosts that profit from this profit from the service, that is hosting of various completely legal material protected by free use, are also not earning money illegally.

I think anime hosting websites are slightly different. That would depend on any ruling if there is ever a big court case about it that sets a definite precedence

Well... from what I know, unauthorized derivative works (translation included) that are made public actually arent protected, and fair use only applies to educational and criticism purposes, so it technically wouldnt fly even if its non-profit. The same generally goes for copyright laws in Japan as well (except Japan doesnt have an equivalent of fair use), from what I discussed with the people on BT.

I've heard it tends to be a grey area. Like if people translate articles in some small country and hosts it without permission, doesn't matter what the content of the article is, it's Fair Use. Also, translating an LN that was previously unreleased or unlicensed in the West can constitute as a spreading of culture or in some cases a gateway as to familiarizing one's self with a foreign language or grammar structure. I've learned from a lot of cases in innocent Youtube vids as well as small time review sites that get hit by big companies that the educational clause in Fair Use is actually really really lax.

(As for the transformative or derivative works, "One of the exclusive rights of a copyright holder is the right to authorize the preparation of derivative works based upon the copyrighted work. 17 U.S.C. 106(2). A derivative work is defined as one based upon one or more preexisting works, such as translation, musical arrangement ... or any other form in which a work may be recast, transformed, or adapted.")

EDIT2: You know what's funny? "Factual works receive less [copyright] protection than fictional works." I guess it's like a "it's just fiction, get over it" approach

But you're right in that Japan's laws are ultimately different, and any legal issues that happen globally tends to be a giant mess that nobody really has clear answers on. But I've heard a lot of people also reach out to the authors personally and just simply get permission, which can be considered a legally binding agreement that can't just be retracted unless a company purchases the publishing rights, in which they pretty much get to say what goes.

- Isekai Maou something Dorei something

I actually read this in manga form already, but seeing it animated was quite nice. I think pretty much everybody enjoyed this one because it was very boob-y and lighthearted.

- Zoids Wild

My best friend was a big fan of this when he was young supposedly. Sadly everybody, especially him, hated it. It was boring, and the style seemed so different from the original. Also I felt like Zoids, when we were young, had a much more mature appeal, like man I wish I grew up and piloted a badass robot animal one day. Also clearly a toy bait

- Chio-chan

I already watched it so I wanted to show it off. It was as well received as I thought it would be. Andou is also already getting introduced next chapter which pretty much makes this series

- Island

Lots of pretty anime girls and a plot that screams Higurashi. I'm actually pretty intrigued by this one, but it's still too soon to tell because they're still setting up the mystery and haven't gotten to the exploration of it quite yet

- Toji no Miko (Dub)

We watched a dub on a whim, and it wasn't bad. I still get very annoyed when VAs say Japanese words as a Japanese would because it's jarring to understand both style of dialect when important terms enter my head better on a more familiar and better flowing dialect. But the first few episodes were confusing to me. The characters haven't been fully established yet, the world and its plot hasn't fully been expounded on several basic levels, but we're already shoved into some runaway plot with 2 characters we don't really get quite yet. Pretty weak episodes but I'm sure there's plenty of potential here to turn it around since some of you love it and watched it to the end

- Psycho-Pass Movie

Why wasn't this Season 2? I loved it a lot. It felt like a pretty logical continuation from S1 where we see Akane grow as who is pretty much the girl running the show while almost being like Sybil's mentor. Sadly we see remnants of S2 in the movie to set up the timeline for this movie, but for some reason the characters that ruined S2 are far more bearable here. I should've seen this a long time ago

I vaguely remember the original Zoids series (my brother was super into it, I just had a passing interest) so this did kind of intrigue me. It might go on in my backlog for later, but I doubt I'll watch it as it airs, especially if it turns out to be worse than the original series like you said it might.

- Island

I'm really intrigued about this one too. I was originally lured to the show by Yukari Tamura's angelic voice like a siren leading a sailor to a watery grave, but when I actually watched the show, it was pretty interesting. I can't wait to see where they take it.

- Toji no Miko (Dub)

The show gets off to a bit of a slow start (first 3-4 episodes or so) and that drove away a lot of potential viewers, but once you get past that, it really gets good. Seriously, I don't think I've talked to a single person who watched it until the end and didn't really like. Of all the shows that have aired so far this year, none of them have had a bigger jump in their MAL score after the series ended (and the people who finished the series finally rated it) than Toji No Miko did. It's that good.

Also, let me know how the dub voices are. I watched it subbed as it aired, but the show was so good that I'm considering re-watching it dubbed at some point, especially since I heard that Monica Rial of all people voices one of the villains later on.

She was my first big roadblock, and by first grind for a limited unit. If you're just blowing through the story, you can use a friend echelon to go take her out. But you don't need to be her power level to bring her down, you'll be lower when you win. If you want that S Rank though, you'll need to be closer to her range.

wait for the island VN instead imo, same guy who wrote himawari. they're aiming for english release before the anime is done iirc

My best team is in the 4500 range, so I ended up getting creamed, although she was at one-third health by the end. I got my fifth eschalon slot now, so maybe I'll raise up a newb team with Grizzly and some story characters while my others do support missions (or whatever they're called) to get me extra ammo.

EDIT: Also, is it just me, or do smoke grenades suck compared to team debuffs and other damage-dealing skills? Its radius is small as hell, at least on the ones I'm using.

I prefer stun for outright stopping enemies. Smoke would be good against the agile robots though since it slows and lowers defense.

Hopefully these clowns will be in a good range soon so I can blitzkrieg the Hunter and be closer to getting shotguns. I think night battles and stuff count toward the unlocking, but I got wiped out halfway, so...I don't want to grind to Lv50. (Well, maybe Lv45 for my MG with AP ammo.)

Don't do that. Save your duplicates until you know you have enough for all their future dummy links. The dummy link at 70 costs twice the cores (which can be cut in half or eliminated by having 1-2 dupes) as the ones at 10 and 30, and the one at 90 costs three times the normal amount but can also be reduced by using dupes. Getting 3-5 orbs now by disassembling that dupe isn't worth a dummy link costing 9-15 more down the road.
